Sir Arthur Clarke's recent passing, and the recent 40th anniversary of the release of 2001 A Space Odyssey got me wondering. Is this motion picture, a useful conjecture about our contact with extraterrestrial intelligence? Is the finale an enlightening metaphor, or an enigma? Michael

I don't remember much of the film. I remember the start and the music.

Perhaps the music is more powerful than the film.

Perhaps its vital someone continues with Sir Arthurs kind of artistic impression.

Its vital we continue unearthing such talent who continues the maintenance of science from a fictional/semi future technology and philosophical observation opinion practicing philosophy and factual evidence with simultaneous binding attributes.

I'm coming Sir Arthur...

Yes Sir... [Continuing analysis].

Ok,

The creation of a total encompassing science institution {The Ministry of Science} is the prime and must be the prime objective of a evolving race practicing organisation in the face of brutallity, suppression and poverty. The institution I propose shall represent the hopes of scholars who have realised their potential, but, most important give a home to the millions of men, women, boys and girls, who have been effected and sometimes afflicted with the chemical need to quest for scientific knowledge. Without such a home such wisdom is without reference and the men, women, boys and girls who have carried the torch for us need us to give them and their name a home among us, the stars and the dimensions we seek to home.

Without tears I cannot continue to explain the importance of such and the men, women, boys and girls.

Thank you.

I was a very sick little boy.

I think the finale of 2001 A Space Odyssey an interesting metaphor for the effect on humankind of first extraterrestrial contact. The 'Star Child' that the astronaut became, after dying of old age, suggests our old, limited conceptions dying and new, much larger ones taking their place, as a result of such contact. And as with a baby, there was no predicting what the future held, except extraordinary potential. Michael
