Before this gets in too many lawyers hands I better correct one item. I have been spelling the name of the subject who offered this great gift. His user name is msattler. The bids are still open and only the SETI project is to gain from this.

On the US Navy team, as many other Government teams, we prefer in the open those who are connected to the Naval Services. Since the cause of the SETI project life is at stake I would like to offer $500.00 to the SETI cause a bid for your farm's RAC for one year to the US Navy Team. Not knowing the legal language I would take your word as a gentlemen that if I am successful in this bid that your output for the SETI cause from your farm would be given to the US Navy team. This of course would be in addition to what I usually give to the SETI project.

Wow. Outstanding. I wish I could match that, but I can't. I will however promise to add $50.00 to this bid for the US Navy Team. That would be $550.00 total so far.

I usually use a credit card to make SAH donations, and will email you a copy of my confirmation letter as proof if you would like. (If our bid is the winning bid of course.)

I honestly cant believe that people are willing to give so much money. I understand that it is a tax deduction in the USA, so thats a plus (I give close to $900 to tax deductable groups here in Australia each year).

If this goes ahead I might have to send some $ in too :)

It is only a tax write off if one has enough right-off to allow it. I don't make that much money but the cause is great and worth-while. Still waiting for others to make a bid. Don't think of it as tax-right off think of the greater good.

Go Navy and help me to add to the bid. So-far my $500 plus two extra $50.00 dollar bids. By the way this is in US dollars.

Bed time will check on this in the early am. Getting late will see you all in the morning when I awake.

I think that Mark should have to be loyal to the winning team...

for... lets say.... 12 months, 4 days & 18 hours at LEAST....

and that he maintain a RAC above 3,141.59....

(who said numbers have to be rounded...)

Luke.

Using Luke's RAC standards Mark will be able to shut down all but one of his rigs and throttle the remaining one down to normal... ROFL

Thinking about this

The original Auction was stated or a single month.

I see no where before my post of any time frame mentioned.

The "offer" was "could" not "will" over 12 months not - 10K for 12 months.

If a bid is in place, then the rules must be understood before a bid is placed.

Maybe the correct thing to do is to have some rules. other than just -

Ok....the kitties have decided to put the farm up for auction........

I will join the team that puts up the highest hard cash donation to Seti......verified.

I'll start the bidding at $100.00 US........

It was not until I started making things difficult did we get some parameters -

If I were to go and use the first post that Mark made as an offer, then it would be interpereted as - the highest bidder - no matter the amount would get his entire farm to crunch for SETI for life.

So - Mark, we need more rules for the bidding - you are the one doing the auction, it is your rules. Set them, and then lets get bidding - for real.
12 months.......

This is a gentlemen's agreement, not a bunch of legaleze.......
I will join the team that makes the best offer, and I will stick with them for at least a year........

Oh ok. Here in Australia if you give a tax deductable donation you dont pay tax on that donation. i.e. if my highest tax rate is 47% (paid on money earnt over about 120,000/year) then I would receive $47 for every $100 donated back from the Government when I put my tax return in in July

you dont pay tax on the first $7000 or so, and anyone that earns above about that figure pays some sort of tax...

Lol, OK everyone, I have already PM'd msattler about this, but as an added sweetener, if this goes ahead AND the final payment is over $500 (And it currently stands at over that), once the payment is confirmed I will also join whetever the winning team is for a period of 12 months.

My current RAC is only about 7500, so it's a LOT lower than msattler's RAC, so consider me joining as an extra bonus. I will run 1 PC 24/7, and the second will, at the moment, probably run 24/7, but that may change depending on electricity prices over the comming year :(

So, you are bidding on msattlers joining, not mine, but I will agree to join the winning team for an added bonus. Hopefully if I can get the optimised apps I can probably get the total RAC to about 10,000, making the total between the 2 of us close to 50,000 as it currently stands.
