I can't get this seti@home client, there is only i686-pc-linux-gnu. Why?

i686-pc-linux-gnu runs on my old Pentium II, SuSE Linux 9.1. Slow but unrelenting (ohne hast aber ohne rast), diacriticals omitted.

Because a Pentium II is a i686.
I have a dual pentium 133 where I have to use the classic s@h client because there isn't a boinc s@h client for i586.

To answer your original question, though, it's because noone has compiled it and made it available to the world. So.... you could compile it for 586, I guess. From some of the other postings here, it sounds like it'll be a real, erm, adventure...
