Hallo Andy !

Genau - Wie auch immer ....!

Yup. But we're off topic...

@cerncerncern,

as mentioned the science app you are using is an old version. Either use at least one of the 2.2B versions from Simon's site (without graphics, the SSE2/SSE3 version should work) or crunch3r's version (also SSE2 or SSE3, they are newer, with variable multiplier and graphics).

HTH
Andy

And since the 2.2B overclaims credit, the Crunch3r Apps are the ones to go for.

F.

I just hope cerncerncern doesn`t give up because of all these different clients, apps, and so on. As a newcomer it might not be easy to keep up with all our good-minded, but to him often confusing, efforts to help him out !

But Rome wasn`t built in a day either!

Have a nice day, you all!
Kurt

That's new to me that 2.2B overclaims credits... ?:-) But after reviewing the lunatics site, the actual version seems to be 2.4.

It was explained pretty prominently when the whole switch to multibeam happened in early August 2007 - see for example this post and this post.

Perhaps that's one of the perils of performing a major project upgrade during the holiday season?

Ohhh...:-o - stupid me (haven't looked in the opt app thread for a long time, since I'm using 2.4V-GFX for some months now - blame me). So V2.4 is the way to go. (and I'll be quiet now... ;-))
Thanks for clarifying, Richard!

[Edit] Actually, from the top off my head I thought 2.2B was already the multibeam app... hmmmm, probably a memory leak at offset 0x00CF003B...[/Edit]

No worries, im not too confused about all different apps, only about why they are used when they make no noticeable differece. Maybe i will go back to the original client with no add-ons, do a few test WUs, and then install the extra stuff and try them again so i know that they are being crunched faster.

How do install the BOINC app with SETI graphics when i currently have the old one without graphics? Do i need to uninstall, and aould i need to delete all the WUs?

P.S. Are there apps that improve the cruching speed of WUs from Rosetta and LHC@home?

Hi cerncerncern !
Glad to hear that You are still sticking with us!

Please keep in mind:
The Boinc client comes, as the name says, from BOINC, which is the overall platform of ALL projects.

Seti optimizations & graphics come from dedicated programmers and have nothing to do with BOINC !

example:

25.01.2008 06:31:27||BOINC 6.1.0.32 - 32 bit Windows Edition by Crunch3r
25.01.2008 06:31:27||Platform: windows_intelx86
25.01.2008 06:31:27||enabled features:
25.01.2008 06:31:27||-cpu_affinity
25.01.2008 06:31:27||-delayed return_results_immediately (1 min)
25.01.2008 06:31:27||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops
25.01.2008 06:31:27||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3
25.01.2008 06:31:27||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC
25.01.2008 06:31:27|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform

The first line shows my Boinc client.(6.1.0.32)
The last line shows my optimization. ( Found app info, etc. )

IMO the easiest way is to empty your cache,and shut down Boinc completely.
In your explorer go to programs - BOINC - projects - seti@home and delete your app info manually.

Go to Crunch3r`s site: http://calbe.dw70.de/seti.html, download 2.4V Windows x32 SSE2 Intel+GFX and install it as described in its helpfile.

You do not really have to get rid of Boinc client 6 as to my knowledge it has nothing to do with graphics, it merely has a better cpu affinity and prevents reporting finished units too soon, thus helping against so called "validate errors".

I must admit that I never used graphics, as they slow down the crunching ( They use the cpu too ) and I wasn`t aware of the fact that you might want to see them!

Last step: Restart the Boinc manager and connect to Seti.

Rosetta has its own app and is downloaded with the workunits.
LHC@home - I simply don`t know!

Hope this helps!
Regards
Kurt

Hmm, perhaps I can explain partially.

The first optimized apps from lunatics.at were basically just the stock 5.15 source code compiled with the Intel compiler and Intel Performance Primitives. That produced a speed boost in the 25% range. Somehow you managed to get the 1.3 lunatics version, which is in that group.

The 2.0 and 2.2 lunatics code had significant algorithmic improvements and hand optimized code added and provided an additional speed boost approaching another 25%. Many of those changes were also ported back to the project and included in the stock 5.2x builds. Thus stock is now about as fast as the 1.3 lunatics release.

The 2.4 lunatics code makes some minor improvements over 2.2 and produces the same credit claims as stock 5.27. Crunch3r's 2.4V builds made a few more changes to give Windows Vista compatibility and credit claims which adapt in the same fashion as 5.28 and later builds.

There are some links at lunatics.at which say version 2.2B and actually lead to the 2.4 versions. There are also links which say 2.2B and do lead to 2.2B versions, particularly the automatic installer package which attempts to choose the best app for a host. That's all side effects of whatever is preventing Simon Zadra from maintaining the site. Now, users who want to get the best version should use CPU-Z or a similar tool to determine their system capabilities then go to Crunch3r's site and choose the matching app.

Hey Joe,
why not ask the KWSN dude to make you admin at luntics.at so you could fix all the links/frontpage there ? Or if you don't wanna do it make GECKO_R7 admin there.

There're lot of people out there still downloading 2.2b and 2.4.. what's up there ?

Plenty of new "developers" but no change to administration at all... since i'm mirroring the whole 2.4V/2.4L etc. stuff for lunatics.at i'd guess some changes over there are needed since it's been a mess for too long...

And to be honest ... i don't think that will change at all if people keep waiting for some Miracle... it won't happen. Time to wake up and face the facts.

I don't have the skills, inclination, or time to maintain the site. It would be very good if someone else volunteers.

Or you, or any of the other 780 users, or a new volunteer. There's no mystery to how volunteer organizations work, if someone sees something worth doing and can/will do it, it gets done. Otherwise it sits there waiting.

The site is still fulfilling a major goal by providing a place where those interested in optimizing the SETI@home application can interact usefully. You've provided a way to distribute the best releases, and I thank you.

Hi cerncerncern !

What I forgot to tell you :

It takes some time ( i.e. 2 or 3 days chrunching ) so that your comp ( cpu )
"gets used to it". Then it improves again a liitle bit!
