Hi Gurus --

Can someone please help me? I'm an old SETI@Home classic user and just started getting back,
now that I have some time. I compiled BOINC and the SETI@Home source code for Solaris 10 x86
and I'm having trouble getting work to do from the servers. I scanned the forums for advice
and have the following output from the BOINC run, with HTTP messages getting logged:

It seems I'm only getting a few bytes before the servers close the connection. Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

There are some network issues in Berkeley. This cause some transfer problems like your issue or sometimes slow forums.

Btw. I have seen, that you are using a version 6 BOINC Client. The version 6 is in alpha state in the moment. I recommend you to use a stable version (5.10.x).
At the BOINC/SETI third party site (boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php) are BOINC clients and SETI applications for Solaris x86 available, too.

Edit: Your system is generating a lot of errors, the SETI application crashes with "process exited with code 131 (0x83) SIGILL: illegal instruction".
It looks like your application has some problems. I recommend you to try a Solaris x86 application from the BOINC third party site.

I will get a stable version in place today, thanks! I just did "svn" and this is the version it
retrieved. BTW, how can you tell that my system is generating a lot of errors? I see no core files
anywhere on my system. RTFMs are appreciated. Like I said, I'm just starting out again.

Just curious,

John

Your system reports the state of the workunits back to the servers. Via the webpage, you can look at the state files of the different workunits.

For example with this link (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=4015390) you can see the finished tasks of your system.

By selecting one task id you can see the report from the application - the messages at the "stderr_txt" section is the point where I saw, that your SETI application is crashing : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=692451958. - Here is in all tasks the same failure :
<core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version>
<message>
process exited with code 131 (0x83)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
SIGILL: illegal instruction
Exiting...

</stderr_txt>

Btw. if you seen an error/exit code different than 0, it indiates, that the SETI application has a problem.

Your SETI application is still not working correctly. You got some invalid results :
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=697745774
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=700177412
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=703906548
I recommend you to update to a well tested version. There is a Solaris x86 SETI Enhanced Multibeam application available from smlug@seti : http://seti.smlug.net/downloads.php?lang=en

If the application produces also invalid results, I recommend you to verify your hardware with a hardware diagnotsic tool.
