I'm running BOINC client version 5.4.11 for i686-pc-linux-gnu on a gentoo linux and setiathome-5.27.i686-pc-linux-gnu.

6.dec. it stopped working processing seti packets.

I start boinc with
root/downloads/seti/BOINC/run_client -no_gui_rpc -dir /root/downloads/seti/BOINC -return_results_immediately -update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu > boinc.log &

and boinc.log output is:

ore boinc.log
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.4.11 for i686-pc-linux-gnu
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8d zlib/1.2.3
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] Data directory: /root/downloads/seti/BOINC
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] Processor: 8 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5345 @ 2.33GHz
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] Memory: 4.94 GB physical, 4.67 GB virtual
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] Disk: 4.59 GB total, 4.00 GB free
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [SETI@home] URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 3055312; location: work; project prefs: work
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2007-07-26 17:01:07)
2007-12-13 16:45:16 [---] General prefs: using separate prefs for work

and from seti account I see, that the cient got new work from seti project from
5 Dec 2007 3:33:30 UTC until 6 Dec 2007 22:21:57 UTC
and all new works have status In Progress - outcome unknown - client state new (deadline >13.jan.2008)

what I noticed: following files are 0 byte emty:
sched_reply_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml
master_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml

any idea, how I can get closer to the problem?
many thanks!
Liebe Gruesse,
Georg

Could you please try to make a "reset project" from within the BOINC manager of the boinc_cmd tool.

Btw. I have seen, that you use a BOINC client 5.4.11. In the moment 5.8.x or 5.10.x is recommended : boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php.

Ahm, I see 5.4.11, 5.8.16 and 5.10.21 as recommended. But, since 5.8.x was a lot of improvements...

I see the three versions too. Very silly question...:
I've no X/KDE/Gnome on my Linux running, can I take version the recommended version "5.10.21 (Standard GUI)" having no GUI running...?

many thanks
Georg

Yes, of course. Only the BOINC manager needs the graphics libs.

Yes, as Dotsch said, only the manager needs X. There should be 3 different executables: boinc_client (which actually does the work), boincmgr (the graphical manager) and boinc_cmd. The last one is the command line tool that lets you control boinc without graphics. You can use that to attach to new projects and manage current projects and tasks just like with the manager just with a little more typing involved :) Or you can enable remote management and use the manager from another computer to manage it.
