If you're a member of a Team (any team), I believe you'll now find you have your own little fora right here at the Seti Fora. Just go here and see if it's not true for your team. Boinc Synergy members....I snagged the first post. :P I believe you can only see the fora for the team you are a member of. Team founders are moderators (I think) ![]() |

I wonder how this will work if a Team Founder appears to have gone AWOL. From the chit/chat on Boinc Dev, I've seen several questions about "what if's", and to be honest, I don't have that answer, but it seems like that question rings a bell. I thought I saw where "project mods" had no power in "team fora", and saw chat about founders and administrators being mods, but am unsure how it's all going to turn out. Many questions, I'm sure. Once again, Seti is the "fivestar crashtest dummy" for Boinc. I'm sure there'll be some headaches....LOL |

Here's snippets of the Boinc Alpha mail list from Dr. Anderson while this progressed over the last five days. I have skipped everyone elses emails, and hope to discern something useable from the "bosses" comments. This means it won't "flow" very well. Alpha testers: A link to the team message boards appear on the Team page, e.g. The Message Boards page shows you the forum David Anderson to John.McLeod, boinc_alpha David Anderson to John.McLeod, boinc_alpha 1) It can be disabled by deleting team_forum.php; I added the ability to edit title and description. I'm not sure what the question is. Team message boards are publicly readable. David Anderson to maureen, boinc_alpha, setimods The "Advanced search" form lets the project admins Note: I also see where a user can't post to team fora if they are banned from the project. happy reading. |

Nothing shows up for me, I am a member of MacNN and the founder for Macfora. Perhaps Hamm hasn't created it? See first paragraph of last post: I added a new feature that lets a team founder create perhaps it shows up for me because Zain Upton (boinc synergy founder) did so????? I don't know. In my first post, I "assumed" it was automatically applied and was just wrong??? Wouldn't be the first time |

Most likely as I just created the forum for Macfora. Of course I cannot see it as I am not a member of that team. Hmmm, maybe a bug that needs squashing. Let me see if I got this right. You are the founder of "macfora", but belong to "team macnn", so you can't read/moderate your own team??? If you don't mind, I'll pass this on to Dr Anderson?? |

Go right ahead. I just reported it, explained the situation, and gave a link to your previous post. here's the contents: At Seti, user "crispin" is the founder of "Macfora", but is currently a member of "team macnn", he has enabled his teams fora, but since he's a member of "team macnn", he can't view or moderate his teams fora. Is this a bug, or unforeseen circumstance? Is there a way to fix it? |

So if our team founder isn't around any more and there are no admins, no forum for us? Seems so, ATM anyway. As far as I can tell, the founder has to enable the fora (as shown earlier by Crispin), and since he and project admin are the only moderators (AFAIK currently), it would lead to a "free for all zone" with no moderation (If you consider that a bad thing) |

I did access the Macfora message board from the team page, but of course it does not show up on the main page. OK, you can then moderate your team. The only issue is that only your current team shows up on the fora index (if the founder created one). I'll update my post to Boinc Alpha. Basically, it seems like you want two listings in the fora, one for the one you founded and one for the team your on. |

So if our team founder isn't around any more and there are no admins, no forum for us? A team member can put in a request to replace the founder, but it takes a few weeks to go through, while a formal attempt is made to contact the founder and a reply awaited. That’s the theory, anyway … some glitches in the process have been reported here or in the Q&A forum, but also some successes IIRC. There should be a link to the appropriate form on your team page. ![]() |

So if our team founder isn't around any more and there are no admins, no forum for us? Yeah, I read about the glitches. Not sure I want to replace the founder of my team myself, though... -Dave ![]() |

Crispin, it's not the answer that I suspect you wanted, but here you go: David Anderson to me, BOINC |

Crispin, it's not the answer that I suspect you wanted, but here you go: I kind of figured that when I was able to see it in the team page. Of course it looks like MacNN will not have forum here do to the founder no longer being active. ![]() |

Of course it looks like MacNN will not have forum here do to the founder no longer being active. I initiated a request to take over founder, but that will take mid January. I just took over founder for the master "teams" yesterday (finally!). Our non-active founder (copied from the project) was being set up for all the new projects lately (more waiting to fix!). So at least we won't have this problem with new projects going forward. In any case, Team MacNN already has a forum. Before we go creating more forums at 80+ projects all over the place, we should decide what to do as a team. This new feature could end up fragmenting our team, I think.
