I predict that 4000000 will arrive in the next 24 - 48 hours. I got 3001110 on 6 Jan 2007, so that will be over 1000000 new host ids created in less than 1 year. Highest that I have seen so far is 3992239 [EDIT] I've been checking and we are now up to 3992377 Created 13 Nov 2007 1:33:47 UTC 3992388 Created 13 Nov 2007 1:39:35 UTC Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 |

If I remember correctly, there was one user whose computer erroneously produced new host IDs at a very fast rate (one every few seconds), so the increase of host IDs does not necessarily mean that so many new hosts were attached to the project. |

I agree, there are many, many hosts like this. While I have been doing my search for the highest id, I have found a few names with lots of hosts carrying just 1 WU. I also spotted a few names who seem to be trying to get that 4000000 spot! [EDIT] This one http://setiathome.berkeley.edu//hosts_user.php?userid=2595&show_all=1&sort=id is particularly worthy of mention!! Warning That page takes a long time to load. |

Some of those new hosts could be the result of problems with the project. Take this one for instance:NET-2 Had to uninstall boinc, clean system & reinstall. On my account, it had 2 NET-2's, so merged them which provided a new host reference. |

Some of those new hosts could be the result of problems with the project. I'm sure they are, I gave you a mention as I spotted your name against a new recent hostid. The one that I saw which seems to have a serious problem is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu//show_user.php?userid=2595 Wayne State College, which has created over 700 new hostids in the last 30 days, with 0 results each. Some of those new hosts could be the result of problems with the project. That is weird. Just looked & they have no tasks downloaded. When I reinstalled mine, it downloaded 6 wu's almost instantly. |

Some of those new hosts could be the result of problems with the project. Have you noticed that most are Linux boxes? I'm not a linux pro so I have no idea what may be going on. However, I dug a bit further down the link of hosts and see one created on the 12th that seems to be running a 4.43 boinc client. Maybe someone could PM this group of users to figure out what is going on? Wendy Click Here for BOINC FAQ Service |

Some of those new hosts could be the result of problems with the project. As it is a college, I think they probably have a room full of machines with similar spec which get new id's every time they are re-booted. Most, but not all, the new id's that get created are: CPU type GenuineIntel Pentium III (Katmai) Operating System Linux 2.6.16 I thought about sending a PM, but have not done so yet. [EDIT] I just noticed that the few machines they have which are getting credit are mostly using old versions of BOINC: 4.19, 4.43, 4.45, 5.4.9 However at least 1 is running 5.10.20 Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 |

Has anyone sent a PM to the owners? There are currently 3248 computer id's on this account and new ones nearly by the minute. [edit] I sent one at 17:25:00 UTC [/edit] |

This user http://setiathome.berkeley.edu//hosts_user.php?userid=8481345 seems to have a lot of computers with only 1 WU each. Some of the recent ones have completed at least one task, so I'm not sure if he has a problem or not. |

This one is practically 9 months older than me & I have 6 hosts with a TC of nearly 90K & an rac of 1,400. Surely with 398 hosts, his totals should at least be 65 times mine? There has to be a problem with the project surely? |

Surely all these non-productive hosts are taking up space on the servers! |
