Hi All
Since the last SAH outage one of my machines keeps stalling with an out of disk space error and telling me that I have to clear X amount of disk space. X increases by a factor of 4 everytime the machine tries to ask for work.

My preference sttings are:
Use at most 3GB
Leave at least 0.001GB Free
Use at most 80% of disk space.

Boinc manager reports 4.5GB of free disk space with 32MB used by BOINC with SAH using 2.8MB. Konquerer also reports 4.5GB Free on the HDD.

Machine is an Intel E6700, Mandriva2007.1, and using standard BOINC Client for Linux V5.8.16.

Logging out and back in, or rebooting clears the problem but it returns within 24 hours.

TIA for any assistance.

Regards
Brodo

Disk use by SAH is pretty modest: one entire BOIC directory, containing the SAH binaries and any project files is currently at a typical 24MB and on another box it's at 81MB - including the World Community Grid binaries and projects, plus some of my garbage. The box using 24MB has a max/min SAH usage of 100MB/0.1MB and IIRC, the other box is similar.

But just to check whether it's something related to SAH or not, log out/reboot etc. to 'reset' whatever it is that's causing the problem - but don't start SAH for at least 24 hours after your machine has been running what you'd normally be doing with it.
If SAH complains immediately about disk space then the problem lies elsewhere.

What size partition is BOINC installed on? You said it has 4.5 GB free, but what's the total size?

You have a strange problem, indeed. I suspect that Konquerer is lying to you about free space. When it happens again, bring up a terminal window and type the following command:
df -h

Check to see exactly how much free space you have available. I suspect there are some temporary files or trash file that are taking up space but are marked as "free" by the KDE.

1. Konqueror him not speak with forked tongue. ;)
2. KDE doesn't play games like that.

Brodo, did you try my suggestion?

Hi All
An update on the situation, I installed VMware player on the system and after that BOINC spat the dummy, at one stage it insisted I needed an extra 2.5GB of disk space before it could download new work.

I've got it working again by altering my preferences to give it access to almost 100% of system resources.

Does anyone know why it should do this ? KwikDisk, Konquerer and the BOINC client itself all report 4.6GB free on the disk and BOINC is only using 30 odd Meg.

At the moment the box is just a SETI number cruncher, the only other programs that are run on it is a web browser. The disk space error used to come after the browser had been run but after the VMWare install came up all the time until I reset my disc usage preferences. Apparently the VMWare install had used all the free disk space BOINC thought was available

It's almost like a decimal point has been misplaced in a disc size entry in a config file somewhere. Which file should I start editing ??

Regards
Brodo
