I can successfully install BOINC on my Intel Mac (2.8 GHZ Duo Core Extreme), but I always get an error message on an attempt to download a work package. I can install the same on my G4 FW800 (dual 1.25 GHz Moto-procs), and I can download and process work packages as expected. Can anyone help with this issue.

I could not find anything in an existing Mac thread that even sounds remotely like this issue.

Which error messages do you get ? - I can't verify your systems, because they are hidden.
Do you have some pending downloads in the transfers tab ?

The message reads "Error ... No work available to process," which sounds like a server or account problem. I do not show any pending downloads in the Transfers tab. Strange thing is that it is only on this machine. In my Projects file, I do show a job with 259-ish work done and a Status of "Communication deferred." Seems like something happened. None of this happened on my G4.

I tried to show my system data, but I cannot find an option in my account info to show/hide it. Perhaps you can help there too.

NOTE: After a long stretch of error messages this morning, I seem to be processing another workpackage. Can you explain? Seems to be working in spite of the messages. I did not have that experience a few days ago when I tried.

Could you please look into the transfers tab of the BOINC manager and look if there are still the pending transfers. If there is some transfers, please press the "Retry now" button to retry the resend. If there are problems, could you please post the error message of the transfer (from the BOINC Managers messages tab) here.

At the SETI website under Your Account / SETI@home Preferences is a setting "Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site?". If you set this at yes, your computer would be shown for other peoples.

Not shure what the excatly cause is. But SETI had sometimes problems with the servers last time which caused such "no work" messages or connection problems at the up- or download.

I reset prefs to show my computers. I also see that things seem to be working now, with occasional errors. I went through the messages, and here is a sampling ...

I got many "no work form project" messages thoroughout the day, but I was also processing work packages. Might I not see this error message on my G4 due to its speed?

The messages are related to a server issue. The message is indicating that the SETI servers has no work to send out. So, your system would be OK.

It appears you have not used Boinc much but you have used classic.. Faster computers and problems with the servers mean we have problems getting work to keep our systems busy all the time. If you set your SETI profile up to give you a 1-2 days of work, most of the time you will have work to process. On the other hand, you can run more than one project as it’s rare to have both down at the same time. I do both.
We have been seeing these problems for a while and because SETI is supported by donations, throwing more hardware at the problem is not a solution at this time.
