When I try to run BOINC for the first time, I get a message

Can't lock file - either another copy of BOINC is running,
or this user doesn't have permission to lock the file.

and BOINC terminates immediately. When I try to run BOINC, there is no file named lockfile, but one is created by BOINC with permissions rw-r--r--.

I'm using linux at work running bash. I have no other copy of BOINC running and the old setiathome program and all associated files have been removed.

Any help will be appreciated.

Might be a problem with ownership.

Is the folder (and all the files in it associated with BOINC) owned by the same users that runs BOINC?

Could have something to do with your admin(if you have one, or you :) ) setting a too restricted usermask. But that I'll leave to someone who knows how they work...

Good luck
