I just ran this on all of my machines and found 3 more of these WU's

Gus,

Would you mind laying out the corpses for inspection in true kitty style, the next time you do this?

Richard,

FYI, no new negative threshold WU's downloaded since this afternoon. I guess that's good news. Perhaps some of these are beginning to hit their retry limits and are no longer being reissued. I'll post any that show up in the future.

Regards

Thanks for the offerings folks - those WU links make it really easy.

Urs - you're right, the number I'm getting makes it important to check for overlaps. Did so: none found.

So the running total is 54 WUs, 179.82 days

Transferring to a database for duplicate checking makes it easy to get other metrics.

Server states
56 In Progress
229 Over
5 Unsent

Outcomes
156 Client error
26 No reply
47 Success
61 Unknown

Clent states
32 Aborted by user
96 Compute error
2 Computing
61 Done
12 Downloading
87 New

I think I'm going to close this exercise when the maintenance outage starts this evening, and - if there hasn't been any sort of announcement on the boards - send it off to Eric: I don't want the early ones to get too stale.

So, you've got about 7 hours to help me get the 'time wasted' up to 200 days (NB we're already over half a year of CPU time reported).

Edit - can't do mental arithmetic any more. Almost half a year.

Yes, I've got that one - has your name alongside it, must have picked it up from one of your earlier posts.

Got to go out now - will process any other replies when I get back.

Last call for contributions - closing in ~1 hour.

Thanks to RottenMutt in another thread, I've now got 57 WUs, 185.90 days - officially more than half of even a leap year.

PS One of RottenMutt's beats the previous record for the latest time of 'initial release' - by 23 seconds.

Ooohhhh.....more than half a year to crunch just 57 WUs. Not good for the ol' RAC, eh?

These are all siblings of URS' 50 and 51, members of the 05mr07ab.14780.368229 group. I was trying to estimate how many of the original group had been retired, how many remain. The very rough figure I came up with was about 60% gone, 40% still being worked. Many are close to having enough errors, of course.

I'm not sure that was entirely sporting, Joe - bit like fishing with a blunderbuss! - but it's brought us up to 246 days. Haven't even counted them yet - need to grab the data before the servers go off line.

The one I've left in the quote is interesting - first observation (I think) of a 'Redundant result Cancelled by server', yet it's only got one "Success". Might be a sign of progress?

No more bulk uploads, please, but a couple more might take us up to 250 days?

I didn't expect the boards to go down quite as early as that. 148074151 was indeed the only 'Redundant result Cancelled by server' in the collection - which had reached 74 after Joe's buckshot blast.

Already got it - it was one of Joe's mass haul. But your abort has added another 97 seconds, and another pending resend, to the totals.

Odysseus has found one more, so I'm at 75 WUs, 251.28 days.

Nice round figures. This collection is now officially CLOSED - thanks to all contributors. I'll send them off to Eric today.

Glad Tidings!

From Technical News:
As far as those overflow workunits taking forever... Jeff and Eric wrote some code (and checked it twice) to scour the database for such workunits and "cancel" them. Immediately we saw our pipelines flood with requests for new work.. so expect some delays for a while. We hope to eventually give credit to those who got stuck with these troubled workunits.

I can confirm that all the "Splitsville Evercrunch Specials" I've tested from my logs now say 'cancelled' (if they haven't become extinct through natural wastage already).

Clearly there were a lot of them out there, from Matt's comment about the requests for new work. But I, for one, am happy to put up with a brief delay for that reason.

And to be offered credit as well.... icing on the cake.

Thanks, fellas.

Thanks, Richard. I saw that, too. I didn't hurt me that much. I suppose something like that could be put on the back burner, unless some others were hurt more by these.
