	A very educational speech, MrGray. Thank you for digging it up and linking it. Ike's words were true then at the dawn of the 1960s, and are still true today. I can only hope that many of the younger participants here that might not have heard it before listen to it. REALLY listen to what Ike said... And take it to heart. Again, Thank you.

	Well, I don't remember who exactly stated it, but think there is a quote like "people don't want freedom, they just want a good leader". I am rather middle class and love freedom. When I was younger I therefore could not agree to such a statement and thought that elites are a bad thing. Meanwhile I am 36 and even though that's not really old I think I am at least a tad bit wiser. Nowadays I think that indeed most people simply don't want to care about politics and such but just enjoy their lives. The big danger lies IMHO in the elites getting too greedy and/or suppressing open minded people. Everybody should have his chance if he just tries hard enough. For my taste democracy is nowadays slowly drifting towards a dictatorship.

	Nah, just because something is labeled a democracy it does not have to be one. What matters is what's going on. Do you think Russia has a democratic system? Or China a communist one? In the end they both have dictatorships - even if they pretend otherwise.
