After I installed OS X 10.4, I started having problems with Seti@home software.

If I leave it on overnight, I often find the system locked up when I get up in the morning.

If I log off, disabling the Seti@home screen saver, the system will not lock up, or if I turn off Seti@home, the system will also not lock up.

The problem increased after I upgraded my ATA 66 card to an ATA 133 card so I could install a new larger 160 GB hard drive.

Has anyone else had this problem?

PS.

I forgot to mention my system, Etc.
I have a Powermac G3 B/W 300, upgraded to a G4 733, 896 Ram, running OSX 10.4.9 and running Boinc manager 5.4.9.

How excatly do your system lock up ? - Is it completly frozen, or is only the screensaver locked up ?

Sometimes it could happen, that the BOINC client makes a lock up, if the network connection is enabled, but not responsible. You can try to upgrade to the actual BOINC 5.8.17, which handle this behavior better, and disable the network connection over the night.

If you have a complete frozen system, it could also be, that your system has any problems with the CPU, Memory or cache. I recommend you to let a hardware test tool running. - Sorry, I did not know a complete HW diag/test tool for CPU, Memory and cache. - But rembler is a good tool for testing the memory.
