Howdy,

the last couple of days (actually 2 weeks) i've been working on porting the chicken app (2.3A source tree) to alternative platforms.

As of now i got it compiled for Alpha and Itanium running linux.

Next on my list is SPARC64 running linux...
(after that ... FreeBSD followed by HPUX)

If you think that a specifically platform should be covered as well, let me know here.

Well He couldn't forget a little devil, Now could He? ;)

It's not a devil, it's a daemon :)

From FreeBSD page:
The BSD Daemon

The little red fellow that graces many of these pages is the BSD Daemon. In the context of UNIX® systems, daemons are process that run in the background attending to various tasks without human intervention. In the general sense, daemon is an older form of the word demon. In the Unix System Administration Handbook, Evi Nemeth has this to say about daemons:

"Many people equate the word ``daemon'' with the word ``demon,'' implying some kind of Satanic connection between UNIX and the underworld. This is an egregious misunderstanding. ``Daemon'' is actually a much older form of ``demon''; daemons have no particular bias towards good or evil, but rather serve to help define a person's character or personality. The ancient Greeks' concept of a ``personal daemon'' was similar to the modern concept of a ``guardian angel'' --- ``eudaemonia'' is the state of being helped or protected by a kindly spirit. As a rule, UNIX systems seem to be infested with both daemons and demons." ;)

Well most would say cause of the pointed tail and the horns on the head, It's a demon, But If BSD wants to call It a Daemon, Do I care? Nope. It was only a statement, I didn't connect It with the word daemon at all. At least the little guy doesn't have hooves. In any case It's pretty harmless.

Silly dream, but...

Boinc/SETI ported to OpenVMS/Alpha would make the entire six of us out here, that would actually use it, happy.

I'd run SETI just for S&G's. I have specific reasons why I have to run OpenVMS on my old Alpha box...

Hi Crunch3r !

As a matter of plateform, AIX is not even supported by Berkeley. So if you can work on porting Boinc and optimzed seti apps to this plateform, many servers would crunch again (can not since 4.x -> 5.x mandatarory switch).

Thanks a lot
