Hi, I just installed 5.9.12 over my 5.8.16 and I now ran into a problem with my optimised seti application. 25/05/2007 19:59:04||Starting BOINC client version 5.9.12 for windows_intelx86 25/05/2007 19:59:04||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 25/05/2007 19:59:04||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 25/05/2007 19:59:04||Data directory: C:ProgrammeBOINC 25/05/2007 19:59:05|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform 25/05/2007 19:59:05|SETI@home|[error] State file error: duplicate app version: setiathome_enhanced windows_intelx86 513 25/05/2007 19:59:05|SETI@home|[error] State file error: duplicate app version: setiathome_enhanced windows_intelx86 514 25/05/2007 19:59:05|SETI@home|[error] State file error: duplicate app version: setiathome_enhanced windows_intelx86 515 25/05/2007 19:59:05|SETI@home|[error] State file error: duplicate app version: setiathome_enhanced windows_intelx86 517 Now seti crunches with the standard application 5.12 and is much slower. Is there anything I can do about this, except to revert to 5.8.16? |

P.S: Hmm, what is even more interesting is that seti_enhanced should be running version 5.15, my manager tab shows me 5.12. Strange things are going on... |

Same error, 5.9.12 & KWSN_2.2B worked fine for 3 days before yesterday server down.Now crunching with stock app, i think the problem is on SETI's end. |

I am using Boinc 5.9.12 with Chicken's 2.2b and it is working fine. When I first started using version 5.9.12 Boinc was repoting version 5.12 for the Seti app when before it was reporting 5.17. But when I checked in task manager Chicken's app was still running. I also checked the seti@home folder and only Chicken's app was there. I think Boinc may be using the first version in the app_info.xml file and before it was using the highest version number so I edited my app_info.xml file so that it now has only one version number 5.15. |

a few months back, I *upgraded* to the new boinc, had weird probs and went back to 5.4.11 + chicken. All was well again! Put the chicken app back in and all was well again! Then the crash. Started reading these boards for the first time. Read theres a new Boinc out again, so I put it in a few days ago. According to the 1 pc I have left here still showing stats before May 1st, I was averaging about 460-470 credits/day. Ever since the crash and Boinc upgrade I'm barely managing 200 - 225 /day. Am I alone here or is everyone experiencing lower stats? I am thinking of setting everything to no new work, and when all is gone blow this new Boinc away and go back to what worked best for me, v5.4.11 of Boinc + the chicken app Any thoughts? like take off eh! to The Great White North |

Am I alone here or is everyone experiencing lower stats? there are many reasons that credit average can go down like that, but the most likely right now is the high number of ghost wu causing reissues and thus makeing your credit sit in pending state much longer than normal. we will need about a month of smooth sailing to see our stats return to what they were before the crash. |

just to fulfil my report duties: the wu finished quickly (standard optimised time) and a new wu was downloaded that is displayed as using 5.17. Everything back to normal it seems. I guess I will wait for the next BOINC Manager release that is not a test version. |

is the new test version 5.10.0 supposed to solve the problem with chicken's 2.2b? I guess I'll try it tomorrow, as I quite liked the 5.9.12 style and the scheduling options. |

Hi B-Roy, it looks like BOINC changed from using the highest found version number in app_info.xml to the lowest, instead. Also, it seems like it doesn't want the same file name for all versions, breaking compatibility. Not sure whether this changed in 5.10.x vs. 5.9.x. I'd check the change log on the CVS. So anyway, 5.9.x is the development tree. 5.10.x will be the next stable version; a .0 one would tell me to exercise caution, though :o) Still, worth a try. Just be sure to disable network access before you upgrade, then make a backup of your BOINC directory. This way, when you upgrade and something goes wrong, you can just switch back to your old install without losing any data. Even if your WUs error out, as long as you don't tell the server about it, you can always start over (from the backed-up data). HTH, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! I had a similar problem. I fixed it by editing my app_info file to look like this: <app_info> <app> <name>setiathome_enhanced</name> </app> <file_info> <name>KWSN_2.2B_SSE_Ben-Joe_GFX.exe</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>setiathome_enhanced</app_name> <version_num>515</version_num> <file_ref> <file_name>KWSN_2.2B_SSE_Ben-Joe_GFX.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> Yours will be slightly different unless you use the same KWSN app as me. [EDIT] My app info file lost it's tabs when I posted it. I beleive it will still work without the tabs, but just taking out all the other versions should work.[/EDIT] Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 |

dear keith, I've tried out what you proposed and am back to crunching with the new 5.10.0. No problems so far: 02/06/2007 00:02:30|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform and the task tab indicates 5.15. So I would guess it is ok, and I am waiting for the first wu to finish. Thanks for the (well presented) solution to the enigma. |
