There have been quite a few of these created recently; during the startup after the long outage various server glitches caused a great many to be generated. Although things are getting back on track, for the past day or so people have been reporting that they’re being created if a timeout occurs during a transaction with the serverâ€â€which can happen fairly often when the systems are overloaded because everyone’s trying to catch up at once. See the extensive discussions of “ghost WUs†in the Number Crunching forum. If you want to get rid of them quickly, you can set the project to No new tasks, wait for the work you have to finish, Update if necessary to get it reported, Detach your host from the project and then immediately reattach. That will release them back to the pool, while (in theory) letting your host keep its ID and statistics. But if you just leave them alone, they’ll be reissued if necessary when their deadlines expire, and should all be gone by the end of next month. In short, there’s probably no problem at your end. You may see a few more ghosts over the next few days, while the recovery proceeds; the staff are still tweaking the new server software and traffic is still heavy. |
