Face it! There is no work be had and probably won't be for a couple days at least it seems. Therefore in order to help get the outstanding work back without causing excessive delays and/or other problems set SAH to no new tasks. The reason is from what I see with my hosts, as long as the rest of the project is up, the random backoff on requests doesn't get triggered, and if your host is out of work it pesters the project far more frequently. This has the effect of eating up the ability of the scheduler to respond to completed work by having to tell hosts looking for new work there is none to be had all the time. As more hosts run out this problem will get worse. Alinator |

Aye aye, Sir. Just took a few moments to tell all of my rigs to quit pestering for new WUs. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

One further note is BOINC will do this even if you still have work in the cache. The only reason it was on my mind is because I noticed a couple my hosts were pestering PAH all the time even though they don't have enough RAM to help out testing there at the moment. Alinator <edit> Just don't forget to turn it back when they get Thumper fixed (I'm a CW, too)! ;-) <edit2> Before somebody asks, there may be reissues available. I'm not sure whether they need to have access to the MSD for that, but they aren't going to help your RAC any (it's going to go down if you run out). So why go looking for trouble? |

Good idea, done. (Edit Let us just not forget to hit update manually once in a while until all work has been reported. /Edit) |

My one machine is out of work so I turned it off. My other two machines each have about 3 days worth of work, so I set them to "no new tasks". Also I'm having one heck of a time trying to report completed work at the moment. |

FYI, even when BOINC is set to No New Tasks, it will still report completed work automatically including the last one. The only difference is it only happens when another report would be needed, or the connect interval expires. Worst case would be for the last one which might not get reported until 24 hours before the deadline. As far as the traffic jam goes, the more of who help out by going to NNT, the quicker it will clear. ;-) FWIW, mine seem to be getting through a little easier now than earlier today. Alinator |
