My parents came for a visit and brought their old computer(P4 1.6) so I could transfer data and set up their new one (AMD64 X2 4600, I built). They also brought one of their even older computers which I'd given them after I upgraded. Anyway, it's a Dell P60. I've found a seti app named "setiathome_win_1_05 on it. Creation date is July 8 1999. I joined classic on the 6th of July, so this must be one of the first seti apps. Atleast the first I used. I believe it started in May something) it is 710KB in size (727,040 bytes) I just thought it was cool and that I'd share this. |

Is that a genuine Pentium 60MHz computer? Does it have the FDIV bug? Wow, that's really cool. I love the smell of old hardware in the morning! |

first surprise was it booted. Second was the green hue on the OLD 14" monitor finaly went away and the monitor functions. Has a massive 48MB ram. Don't remember the FDIV bug. Has Win98se Second Edition 4.10.2222A though. Description in "system properties" is GenuineIntel Pentium(r) Processor. Doesn't have an ethernet connector, only modem. Hmmm, Will have to search closet for old card. I think I have one w/drivers for win98 in my Cel500, I could steal for tryout. Hmmm, maybe not, might be ISA not PCI. Plan disassembly for inspection and cleaning tomorrow. |

OOOOOOOOH..... A Smithsonianesque fully functional with first generation app historical archive candidate. Maybe they could mount it on a post in front of the SSL! :-) Alinator |

Has Win98se Second Edition 4.10.2222A though. Description in "system properties" is GenuineIntel Pentium(r) Processor. You should put CPUZ on a floppy (it should fit - it's only about 1MB for the latest version) and see what it says. Also, you can enter this calculation in Windows Calc.exe to see if you have the FDIV bug (that is, if Windows 98SE doesn't have it's workaround enabled, which it probably does): 4195835.0/3145727.0 = 1.333 820 449 136 241 000 (Correct value) 4195835.0/3145727.0 = 1.333 739 068 902 037 589 (Flawed Pentium) To see if Windows 98SE has the workaround enabled, go to Device Manager, expand the "system devices" tree, locate the Floating Point or FPU device and open it, then check to see if the option to bypass the FPU is enabled or see if it's set to check for the FDIV bug. That should give you a little fun to try out. 8-) |

Ozzfan, I don't see "system devices". I have PCI bus, system board, system CMOS/real time clock, system speaker, system timer, processor support, and programmable interrupt controller. Only the PCI bus has expandable tree. I also don't see a windows calculater. |

Do you need an old copy of SiSoft Sandra to run on it - to help check out it's internals? |

Ozzfan, I don't see "system devices". Hmmm... I'm going from memory as I don't have a Win98 system up and running. I suppose I could go into the basement and grab one to see what I'm looking for. I also don't see a windows calculater. Can you do a search for calc.exe in the \\Windows directory? Windows Calc should be located under Start -> Programs -> Accessories if I'm not mistaken. |

OK, fired up my Pentium II 333MHz with Win98SE. I can send you calc.exe if you'd like me to, not that it's that important or anything, but I have it if you want it. Strange that there's no "system devices" tree in Device Manager. My PII has one, but I know older machines had very little in the way of "system devices" for even Windows 95. Is there anything that stats a property for "Numeric Data Processor"? That's the device I found that controls the FPU in Windows 98SE. If not, you probably don't have the workaround enabled and may very well have the FDIV bug. |

What's it need there Astro, 72- Pin? I'd have to root around but I'm pretty sure I've got some kicking around. I'd have to check them out to see what size they are though. Alinator |
