I have read a couple of other threads relating to CPU usage. I run a Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop and when CPU usage gets to 100% the CPU fan kicks in.

It was expensive last time I had to have the cpu fan replaced as all repair work for laptops is expensive. Is there a way of configuring the machine and the seti@home software so that a) I can again participate in the search but b) not wear out the laptop by doing so?

If you have not already done so, download the latest version. Set the CPU fraction to use to about 50%. (one second on one second off). This should reduce the fan usage.

Chas,

Welcome aboard!

You may want to consider getting a laptop cooler.... we can't post links but the Antec one works beautifully for me.

Who are “we”? What’s stopping you from posting links?
