I keep recieving the same error messages everytime I try to download a new work unit. Nothing has changed on my computer. I have a pc and a laptop both running the XP SP2 with the virtually the same software on both. The pc keeps getting checksum and signature errors.
[error] Checksum or signature error for 03my04aa.25685.28368.403388.3.113

Please any one know whats up? I am running BOINC ver. 5.8.15 thanks

That's not much info to go on, but the obvious answer is you aren't getting the whole file during DL, or something has started corrupting it for some reason.

You could try disabling error checking in your prefs as a test to see if that fixes it.

<edit> Scratch that, I guess that pref only applies to the graphics files.

Sorry I can't give you more information, but BOINC only gives me that response. I am currently trying your suggestion. I have to wait til the server will let me download another work unit. Thanks for a quick response.

Sorry, I went and double checked what the pref does, and unfortunately I don't it will help here. But I guess it can't hurt to give it a try.

Your hosts are hidden, so you'll have to cut and paste more info from your message tab or give us a link to the Host and/or results in question to give us more clues.

I unhide my host via pref. I hope that helps. I tried to cut and paste from BOINC, but it would not let me. I even downloaded the newest vers. 5.8.16 , maybe that might fix it as well. I dont understand why my laptop, which is setup the exact same way(same software) is not having the same problem. Would it help to completely uninstall BOINC and do a new install??? Thanks again.

Copper, I'd suggest going to "general preferences" under "your account" and changing the last preference:

Skip image file verification?
Check this ONLY if your Internet provider modifies image files (UMTS does this, for example).
Skipping verification reduces the security of BOINC. no

To YES. Then go to the "projects" tab on the manager, highlight "setiathome XXXXXXXX" and then click the "update" radio box to the left. It should update your prefs (see message log).

Does this help?

They're still showing hidden right now, so make sure you click the update prefs button before you navigate away.

You have to use the BOINC Manager "Copy Messages" command. Right click context style does not work in the Manager.

Might want to give us chance to look things over first, before trying the brute force method. ;-)

You can see them if you follow his profile link. Kinda weird IMO, but whatever...

They're still showing hidden right now,

see here.

Seems like it started on April 5th. Since then, only one result did get through (on the 8th of April), other WUs show "WU download error: couldn't get input files".

Maybe this was due to a Firewall Update? Did anything happened on 5th of April? Any system changes?

Andy

BTW: Your other PC also has two or so D/L errors, but normally seems to work...

OK, I can see them now.

First stab guess is check and see if there are any transfers left on the transfer tab. If there are, then give a retry a shot and see if you can pick them up now.

If there aren't any showing, then you may as well do a project reset and see if that clears the pipes, since there isn't anyway to recover the old ones at this point.

I did the reset but it still is not working. Here are the error messages I keep getting.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I have install the latest version of BOINC. Thanks, bob

Hi Cooper,

This other computer you have, is it connected to the internet the same way as the computer that is presenting the problem? What kind of firewall/connection you're using?

Regards,
Wander

The working laptop is directly connected to a linksys router. The pc is connected bt wireless network. I am using the same Computer Associates Internet Security Suite on both computers. The computers are configured identical. They have the same software running on both. Thanks for your help Wander.

No problem Bob. Just trying to help ;)

I know it's a longshot, but is there any possibility to switch the connections around? Just to make sure that either the router or the wireless access point are not the culprit. I'm assuming both connections are provided by the same ISP, right?

I know some ISPs use a compress scheme to transfer some data over their network, to try to speed things up, but they generally do it with graphics files. The WUs are simple text files with the radio signals encoded in to them. Are you using any of connection accelerator that might be interfering in the DL process? Or maybe some setting in the wireless access point.

Regards,
Wander

NO Problem Wander, The computers are to far apart to hard line the pc. I am gonna check the firewall settings and make sure that BOINC is not restricted in someway. The only change I made to both computer was upgrading the CA security suite software. Works fine on laptop both not on my pc. There are no connection accelerators on my side. I use verizon dsl to connect.

Thanks again, bob
