Just installed the screensaver on our computer. The screensaver either starts and then goes right back to the desktop a second later, or when BOINC does come up, it says that activity is suspended and never starts the SETI stuff. Any ideas?

First Welcome to Boinc-Seti.

Make sure you have the latest driver for your graphics adapter. You might also want to upgrade to the latest version (9.0c or later) of DirectX.

BTW Boinc works without the screensaver. I personally don't use it as I consider it a waste of CPU cycle that can better serve to analyze the data.

If your account general preferences is set to use Boinc only when the system is idle any movement of the mouse or use of the keyboard will suspend Boinc. In some rare cases the screensaver as been known to be interpreted as a non idle system and suspends Boinc.

If it says activity is suspended, it is probably either a graphics card driver, or a direct X version that is out of date. Try updating both. There are some graphics cards that just cannot be made to work right. In these cases, the only option is to have BOINC run all of the time (Either by setting the run when user is active option to true, or by setting the activity level to run always instead of run based on preferences).

If it indicates that BOINC is not started, then it is a bit of confusion. The screen saver does not start the daemon, but the daemon is supposed to be started beforehand either by running BOINCmgr.exe or by installing as a service.
