Hi everyone.... I'm not sure why I haven't ran SETI for years now, I guess I just wasn't aware of the project. It wasn't until recently when I was youtube I found a video regarding recordings from space.... which made me do a google search and then I found this place and have been running SETI on 2 of my machines since (about a week or so) I'm using 1 PC and 1 MAC..... and while my Mac has only uploaded 1 result so far.... I have a question as to why it's returning so many errors and if this is a problem that I should be concerned about or what it is exactly? Here's what I see from the result pages of the last uploaded one... but why or what are all the errors it's reporting? : <core_client_version>5.8.8</core_client_version> MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 ar=0.545318 NumCfft=63359 NumGauss= 359692438 NumPulse= 68994126976 NumTriplet= 6171438858240 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 ar=0.545318 NumCfft=63359 NumGauss= 359692438 NumPulse= 68994126976 NumTriplet= 6171438858240 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 ar=0.545318 NumCfft=63359 NumGauss= 359692438 NumPulse= 68994126976 NumTriplet= 6171438858240 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 ar=0.545318 NumCfft=63359 NumGauss= 359692438 NumPulse= 68994126976 NumTriplet= 6171438858240 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 MacOS Error -5000 occured in /Volumes/Sage/BOINC_Mac/boinc/api/mac_icon.C line 107 ar=0.545318 NumCfft=63359 NumGauss= 359692438 NumPulse= 68994126976 NumTriplet= 6171438858240 Also, why is all the data so old? 2000? Is there 6 more years of data that yet needs to be crunched? I've only seen projects recorded in 2000.... and nothing else yet. Thanks for taking the time to read this... forgive me if this is sort of newbie-like but I just wanted to get my feet wet in the community I guess and see if the above question could be answered. All the best, Clint Thompson |

I can not answer you Mac question. I can answer the why 6 years old. It's been answered many times. The data we are now crunching is data that had been looked over before and may have had something interesting that they want the newer enhanced software to look at, or tapes that were deemed unusable under the old software. The other thing is the signals we look for are probably tens, hundreds, thousands of light years away. A few more years will not make a difference. That life form may not even be alive anymore. Pooh has answered your second question better than me. I have only been active on BOINC for about 1 month and so far have seen mostly '00 and '03 data with a few from '99. Hope you find some more answers on the Mac forum. Keith |

If you do feel that you want to crunch new 2007 data then attach to Seti Beta. But please don't run with optimised apps. They are testing new splitter and multibeam antenna data. Andy |

Thanks everyone for the response. Turns out a few others have the same issue but are unaware of an answer at this time as well. WinterKnight.... what app do you suggest I use for SetiBeta? (or what version rather). |

... what app do you suggest I use for SetiBeta? (or what version rather). Whatever version BOINC downloads automatically will be the one the project wants to test; at the moment it’s SETI@home Enhanced v5.17 or 5.18 (depending on platform), and there’s also Astropulse v4.10 for Linux (more platforms to come). I don’t know why WinterKnight brought them up in this context, but optimized apps, which are widely used on this ‘main’ project, use an app_info.xml file to override BOINC’s automatic updating; this means that the user must take responsibility for keeping current. See the sticky thread on the subject, which includes links to the “Chicken†apps for PC from the Knights Who Say Ni!, and to Alex Kan’s for Mac from Team MacNN. These are inappropriate for Beta: as you can imagine, it’s rather hard to get good test results for a particular version when the testers are running something else … |
