He is asking with whom could he communicate in russian?

So I offered some limited help through my experience boundaries.

Question for you. My name is Jeff Sapper and I've actually belonged to the Seti home project for many years. Anyway to move credits from the old, old account into the new one (this one was created Nov 2006, the old one could go back as far as 20 years)

Thanks,
Jeff

Well, just about eight maybe: I believe the project went public in May ’99. Anyway, see the returning Classic participants page and choose the option that seems most appropriate to your situation.

BTW your question really belonged in the Getting Started Q&A forum. Don’t be surprised if a moderator moves it.

Also your conputer as not processed any WU under this account (email address are the unique account identifiers), since it was attached to Boinc in Nov 2006. If you need help to get going, feel free too ask for help in the getting started forum.

edit: I see three account with your user name (Jeff Sapper) two are from today.

Cannot create a new thread via a post move.

I didn’t realize that. I was about to say that I’ve seen SzDG mods doing it, but it just occurred to me that they start a new thread in the appropriate place with a message of their own, and then move the ‘misplaced’ posting there. At the time I thought the initial message (which would say that the topic had been moved) was just a courtesy to inform readers, but now I guess it was also part of a workaround.

Hi Kevin,

First of all, welcome to SETI/BOINC. I hope you enjoy working for the project.

I reviewed your results and for some reason, you aborted the WUs (Work Units) before completion. What exactly do you mean by "reset itself"?

Every WU you computer downloads is processed in turn, so its completion percentage and CPU time used will vary from time to time. Maybe you can post the contents of the Messages tab here to give us a better idea of what's happening to you. Not everything, just 20 or 30 lines of the messages you think is relevant.

BTW, this board is the SETI's staff blog. In the future, post your questions in the Windows Q&A or in the Number Crunching forum, ok?

Regards,
Wander

Well the antenna is sleeping and whole project got through some recent re-shakes, how is the multinational forum idea going on or is this being killed or do you guys (Eric, Pappa...?) still keeping that in your plans? I greatly appreciate for your private message function for members!

Orgil

With parts arriving to fix issues and turn red light green... Eric, Matt and Crew have been very busy... This also does not mention that there has been a bought with the Flu passing through...

Please be patient...

Pappa

Can there be any good invitations/encouragements for seti members from different cultures and countries besides english speaking countries? Well it is clear anybody can post here but when people from non english speaking countries post here they make few grammatical mystakes and mostly you guys kind of ridicule them like asking to write correct english etc.

It's a good idea to have international forums. The hard part come in how to handle the flame wars that will eventually arise. I suppose we could require a volunteer to moderate before we open a board in each language. I'll add this to my internal suggestion box.

Eric it has been over a month passed since this talk what is the development on your Asgard High Council?

As far as I'm aware, seti@home have no published plans for any transmissions out to space.

In any case, Earth already transmits enough electromagnetic radiation to show that there is (semi-)intelligent life building mechanical devices here.

There was the “Arecibo Shout” in 1974—long before S@h of course—but it wasn’t directed at any particular “likely candidate”. IIRC it was beamed somewhere in the general direction of the constellation Hercules.

I couldn't post in many other threads, so I thought I would try this one. Feel free to move/delete or whatever.

I am a member of BAUT and just came across this idea to build my own receiver:
http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?t=59294

He seems to be the only one besides SETI.
Is it possible/viable?
Would I be able to get a list of arcs(?) and freqs that haven't been searched and avoid doubling?

I have now been back onto SETI for a month, after being away for a year, started with it in the old days...I now have Boinc up, and have had it up prior so I am a bit familiar with it....and I have SETI and Einstein as projects ....really want to do SETI, except it never communicates with me, is it working?

These are the messages I keep getting when I ask for work?

Thank you

Yes, and no.

S@H had a major hardware malfunction (Thumper died) about a month ago. A replacement server was expedited and installed about 7-10 days later. Over the next couple of weeks several other server systems failed due to 'old age' and were removed from service.

SETI has been running on a shoestring for many years. Their equipment is old, out-dated, and beginning to fail faster and faster. Several supporters have stepped forward and donated some badly needed replacement systems.

Because of the many changes: various network paths; file server paths; and software glitches have shown up to extend the outages.

Patience is required now while the SETI staff rebuilds a large part of the hardware/software infrastructure.

"This too shall pass."

Hi Guys,

Please, let's not mess with these forums. There's the Q&A and the NC forums to ask such questions, OK? :)
