There are all types of button on the left side of the screen to Reset the Project, Update the project, but not one to just request more work units when youir out. When you hit the update the msg says" update but not requesting more work" No, sometimes I just want to request some more work. I should not have to RESET the project every time i want some more work units. So add a button for that purpose, "Request more work from Server". Doesn't mean you'll get it but at least the server knows what the request is really for without additional processing load. In fact a button like that will free up server time and processor load, always a good thing. |

There are several possible reasons for no work request being made during an update. 1) You machine already has enough work on it. 2) One of the tasks has a risk of going past deadline (this restriction is partially lifted in 5.7). 3) The project has used more than its share (as defined by the user) of the CPU, and needs to give some time up to the other projects. None of the reasons for not requesting work should be overridden by the user. However, there are a couple of things the user can do. Increase or decrease the connect every X days. If it is too small, BOINC will believe your queue is full, and will not get work. If it is too large, there will always be tasks that are in danger of being returned late. Change the resource shares. Reduce the number of projects that are attached to a given computer. BOINC WIKI |
