Rom, Great job. Just installed 4.06 on my ME machine and am having no problems so far. It allowed me to send processed units with no lockups. Also, I was brave enough to do a manual update from the projects tab (certain death in 4.05) with smooth results. Did the same on the 98 machine. So far both have been running smooth.

I think we have a winner!! Thanks.

Installed 4.05 when it became available. Seems to be working fine on Solaris
and XP but my Win2k machine is consistently bluescreening now. It ran fine
with the previous version. It might be just me but it seemed relevant to this
thread even though it's 2k and the problems are supposed to only be in 95/Me.

I think this is caused by the user logo. I removed the logo from my preferences now BOINC is running without a problem with 4.05 and 4.06 under WinXP Prof. SP2.

BTW: I did not change the logo and it worked fine with BOINC/Seti 3.x.

This is a stderr.txt of BOINC 4.06 before I removed the logo:

I am running 4.06 on 2 win98 machines now. Seems to be working well. With 4.05 I could not get anywhere without rebooting all the time.

No problems with Win XP running 4.05.

Just those using Win98/ME.
You might like to try it if you're game, & let us know how it goes on a non 98/ME system; but at this stage i'd suggest sticking with V4.05.

Where might one put their hands on a copy of 4.06. I have an older 400mhz Compaq Notebook and just made a clean install of WIN98SE on it. Would be more than happy to put 4.06 on it and give it a go.

Further update-

We may have a winner.

I downloaded version 4.06 8 hours ago and installed it on Windows XP. It has been running without any problems at all. I have updated, downloaded and uploaded. Just wanted to inform you all of that.

http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_alpha/download/boinc_4.06_windows_intelx86.exe

Please note- install at own risk; we're doing the alpha testing of this bit of work.
But from my own experience to date- it's worth giving it a go.

Just a comment from here, running win98se.

Just installed the 4.06 and got lucky with 2 "golden" WU's that finished within 3 minutes each.

All worked perfectly, upload, download, update and starting computation of the new WU's

As said earlier, seems as if we have a winner here.

VERY WELL DONE Berkely, many well deserved credits from here, and keep up the good work.

A very happy cruncher :) :) :)

no problems.

I downloaded 4.06 too and everything seems to work well. Very good work, Rom- that was a really quick solution to the Win98 issue.

I downloaded 4.06 too. Works very well! Great work!
But it seems a bit slow. Is it a debug version? Therefore the symbol files?
Would be interesting, whether the optimized version behaved same! Sometimes a shift in timings changes behaviour significantly. Just in case of weak multitasking systems like W98.

As posted before I had problems with Boinc CC 4.05 on my Win95 and WinMe machines. I just installed version 4.06 on both PC's.
Both started a CPU benchmark, resumed computation using the setiathome4.03 client and downloaded several WU's.
I still have to wait until they finish a WU, but for now it looks OK.

Hi, I am getting a problem with 4.06, does not want to install over 4.05

Gettting message" an error occured in the move data process -132" at 71% install

THis is on a 2.8 GHz AMD WIN XP home with SP2

Does install without a hitch on one of childrens 2.4 running Win98 (over V 3.2)

Any ideas. I am not sure I want to detatch or reinstall as I have a CPDN unit making progress which has not died yet

Hi Bernhard

If you have downloaded AND INSTALLED the pdb zip file, then yes you are in some sort off debugging mode, and that will slow processing down.

This have been mentioned in an earlier post in this thread.
