How do I upgrade to 5.4.11? The current version is available here. To upgrade you present version, just exit BOINC, then run the file you downloaded. It'll install itself, keeping all your present Work Units & settings. I didn't upgrade from 4.45, but just found out I'm running 5.15. 4.45 is the version fo the BIONC software you're running- you need to upgrade it manually as new versions becpome available. 5.15 is the current version of the Seti software & it will upgrade automatically as new versions become avaiable (unless you install an optimised client in which case you would then need to manually upgrade it as new versions become available). I was turning in several WU's a week, now I haven't been able to finish one WU and my SETI screensaver won't even work. I didn't change anything from the time before the Sept. 11 when it was running perfectly. If it's behaving oddly, some of it's setting may have become confused for whatever reason. The easiest way to sort it out would be to open BOINC, select the project tab & select "No new work". Once it's finished the work it has it won't download any more. You can then uninstall BOINC, manually delete it's directory & sub-directories & then reinstall BOINC using the new version i linked to above & re-attach to Seti. Just make sure you enter the same email address/password you used when you first joined up- that way you will retain all the credit you've earned so far. Once that's done it'll take a day or to for the estimated completion times to become accurate again. Once that's happened then it should work without problems. If there are any further problems then we'll see what we can do then. Grant Darwin NT |

How do I upgrade to 5.4.11? Grant, your the best! I hit the 'no new work' button and will wait for it to finish, then go to the next step. Thanks again! |

I didn't document the error information but I got one of these enhanced seti errors today. Extraordinary claims require Extraordinary proof. |

I didn't document the error information but I got one of these enhanced seti errors today. It's well documented in your result 388146282. These cases of S@Home crashing on one system but reporting -9 overflow on others are worrisome. But they're often like this case where the credit difference is negligible. Joe |

Continuation from the old thread, as the old one got a bit long. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't know what I've done..but..I've managed to make Boinc think it's crunching numbers for two computers (I only have one) and neither one of the sets of numbers are working. (The results of both are showing as unrecoverable errors.) A few days ago I deleted everything for Boinc 4.45 and upgraded to 5.4.11. Below are just a few of the pages of messages I've received since I've upgraded. I thought I put the same password I had when I first started working with Boinc. Would that cause the two sets of numbers being crunched for the same computer at the same time? I will start from scratch if I have to, in order to fix my SETI@home. Thanks ahead of time for your patience and help with this hopefully recoverable problem I've created. You are appreciated for sure. Now THIS is strange: I was innocently typing a message on the SETI Beta message board when ZoneAlarm notified me that the SETI Enhanced 5.15 app demanded direct access to the 'net, a thing I've never seen before. I denied access and later noticed a computation error (exit code -1073741819), as seen here, which must have been generated at about that time. What's going on??? As a sidenote: The inclusion of "Foreground Window Data" (in this case "Window Name: Diskussionsforen - Microsoft Internet Explorer") in the publicly viewable debugger dump strikes me as a severe privacy issue. Has this been discussed yet? <core_client_version>5.4.9</core_client_version> <message> - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) </message> <stderr_txt> ar=0.646071 NumCfft=58221 NumGauss= 303597336 NumPulse= 58177973119 NumTriplet= 4966690209792 ********** ********** BOINC Windows Runtime Debugger Version 5.5.0 Dump Timestamp : 10/04/06 14:33:42 Debugger Engine : 4.0.5.0 Symbol Search Path: C:\\Programme\\BOINC\\slots\\3;C:\\Programme\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu;srv*C:\\DOKUME~1\\[... username ...]\\LOKALE~1\\Temp\\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols;srv*C:\\DOKUME~1\\[... username ...]\\LOKALE~1\\Temp\\symbols*http://boinc.berkeley.edu/symstore ModLoad: 00400000 0014a000 C:\\Programme\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu\\setiathome_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe (5.15.0.0) (-nosymbols- Symbols Loaded) File Version : 5.15 Company Name : Space Sciences Laboratory Product Name : setiathome_enhanced Product Version: 5.15 ModLoad: 7c910000 000b7000 C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\ntdll.dll (5.1.2600.2180) (-exported- Symbols Loaded) File Version : 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) Company Name : Microsoft Corporation Product Name : Betriebssystem Microsoft? Looking back over the stats graphs in the BOINC Manager, over noticed several wu for both of my computers which do not appear to have received any credit. One I know hung up and I ended up aborting it. The others I thought I could look at the results page and see what happened. It appears that the results page now only shows the last result received from each computer and the current unit being processed. I know it used to show the results over an extended time frame. Was this changed for some reason or could there be a problem with my account and receiving credit? |

It appears that the results page now only shows the last result received from each computer and the current unit being processed. Not quite that simple. Its based on when all of the workunits sent to the different computers are returned. Once all of the results are returned, a final result is moved into the master science database, and the "working copies" of stuff are deleted from the BOINC database. I know it used to show the results over an extended time frame. Was this changed for some reason or could there be a problem with my account and receiving credit? Yes, it did used to keep completed results around for a longer period of time (about a week after the last result was returned). They shortened the time frame about 6 months ago, to solve some other problems related to the size of the database. There is an entry about this for March 30, 2006 on the Technical News page. I think I read more details about the delete from the BOINC database process in the Wiki. I personally, have a very difficult time finding specific things over there, so can't point you to a good specific link. Maybe you will have better luck than I? |

I've had four bad WU's. Checked my 'results' and noticed several other cruchers had the same problem. Just a couple of bad units. While crunching some WUs with a new revision of my optimized app, something strange happened. It crunched a WU fine, uploaded and requested credit. A rather large amount of it, too, in fact - 18,622,074.70. Yes, that's 18 Million and then some. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=94322649 So I decided to look at the WU, and there has been one more result returned, this one with an error I haven't yet seen - ---------- <core_client_version>5.4.11</core_client_version> <message> Couldn't start or resume: -108 </message> ---------- Regrettably, no more results have yet been returned for further comparison. The app requesting this insane amount of credit has produced only valid results so far and the credit multiplier set at 3.35, as the stock 5.15 version. Would make for nice RAC now wouldn't it ;o) Since this is the first returned result that is possibly valid, it will likely form part of the quorum. Please fix the credit claims should a quorum even form, don't want anyone saying I cheat ;o) <edit>I've taken the host offline til I figure out what happened. It could be a problem with my app, too. I compared the flop counter and it was absurdly high.</edit> Regards, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Optimized SETI@Home apps + Information |

This is what the wiki says error code 108 is: ERR_FOPEN -108 system fopen The file is "open" and in use by another process, or write access to the file cannot be obtained. |

Big Oops. Seems there is a glitch somewhere in the FLOPs reporting in my latest test builds. There is a second result which I've cancelled before it could run its course that would have massively overclaimed. Since it's not going to be valid, it should not be granted credit, though the other one may. Anyone with the right access level, please make sure credit claims are as they should be for these WUs... http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=393422080 <- cancelled http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=393422180 <- finished, big overclaim I tested this build for result validity, made sure the credit multiplier was correct and assumed it would claim correctly. Nasty, but it shouldn't affect more than these two results. The app has since been taken offline til this issue is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience - I try to test exhaustively before putting things online, but I guess I need to adjust the parameters I include in testing. Good thing this was a pre-release version. I saw three zero-second errors in my list today but all the results returned by others were erroneous, too. The workunits were dated May 2003 and obviously were erroneous themselves. |

I have been getting some frustrating Compute Errors as well, these are error 131 which appears to be a stack frame error and they only appear when I use the graphics display under Linux. Any WU that I turn on the graphics monitor for seems to fail but others that run 'unwatched' seem to work OK. Any suggestions? |

Any suggestions? Don't display the grpahics (faster proessing). Try a different video driver. Grant Darwin NT |
