I want to comment on the people who keep posting “if you don’t like BOINC use Seti Classicâ€. Some go so far as to put it in their SIG file. I’ll ignore the fact I think this comes off as very arrogant. Everyone will eventually be forced to move to BOINC from SETI Classic. This is a change we will all be forced to make. That is why people like me keep bringing up issues NOW before we are forced to move so by the time we are forced these issues may be resolved while we still do have a choice. This is why people like me say I like the old way of this better. When people say they don’t like this and they don’t like that then what will you posts be when there is no Seti Classic, just go away? I think we have to accept for some people removing and adding software over and over is a pain that they just don’t want. I’ll give my computer some thing to do when it’s idol, but I don’t want to make a hobby of it. I don’t want to spend my time in development forums pouring through page after slow page to see if my question has been asked, then again to see if it has been answered, assuming the forum is even up. This project is for my computers idol time, not mine. For now, BOINC seems to be in a beta stage where it is still developing. Although there was a conversion process users did when they moved between the old and the new they still have the ability to go back to the old program for now. They can choose to run that until they are required to change or check back in a while and see if things have improved. We should hope their negative experience with BOINC will not keep them from trying it again in the future. Their computer time is valuable to ALL members of the Seti project. TW |

If a user cannot stand the fact that S@H / BOINC is still having difficulties, and you feel the need to attack the developers rather than report problems without attacks, then everyone user/developers/other users would be happier if that user did move back to S@H classic for a while while the problems are ironed out. The solution of moving back to S@H classic is known to be a temporary solution, but moving back to S@H classic would allow that user and all that read and respond to the posts less stressed. Anyone that wishes to report problems without personal attacks is more than welcome to do so. But please read the posts to see if the problem has been reported already, as reading the same complaint for the hundredth time can get tiresome. |

I agree with you about the atacking of the develelopers, but that is the result of making a "live update" without a decent test of the System ! We have to live with that, but one can only evaluate the size of the problems, when counting similar postings. Because I am having massive hangups of my System since using the Version 4.05, I will suspend Work until there is a stable Version. (And that without blaming anyone for not doing a good Job.) Because of the Size of the Projekt and the complexity of the Funktions, it would be a Miracle, if there where no malfunktions. Maybe some Hint of a Helpful Alien would Help the Projekt a little ;) |

Unless of course you have already done so in another thread. This will help the developers find the problem. |

Not sure why you have added the word "you" here instead of "they". I have made many posts, and do not "flame" developers. Since e-mail has no eyebrows I'm not sure if the aim on your poison pen is off or your making a direct stament. The trick is you don't wnat to turn them off of the new version for ever so they just don't bother with it again when clasic dies. Even when the web server(s) are responding quickly it can take several hours to look at a few pages of posts. I think people giving poorley formated feedback is better then them giving none at all and us not knowing what trouble they are having or why they are leaving. A next step may be a "reported issues list FAQ" and / or a list of pening upgrades and a list of version notes (i.e. 4.02 to fix error 1, 2 4.03 to fix error 3,4.... I for one have not been clear on what features have been addressed in program updates, and don't want to waste my time if my issue has not been resolved. This could just be me not having found teh right spot yet either.... |
