In version 4.x is there any word on if the poor CPU sharing and memory resource stealing has been fixed? Just a cheep shot, but why does BOINC take 500MB of free memory when I have no work units? Why does BOINC hog CPU cycles when I have no data? To clarify for those of you who have not seen my other posts, I have identified a major issue with how BOINC is sharing resources with other programs. This is a minor issue with some basic windows components, and a major issue with several server components. On Windows XP systems running on P 4 2.8C processors and 1GB or ram with BOINC client running and set to back ground OR screen saver only when the users open the “my computer†windows the system can not complete the listing of drives and the windows freezes until BOINC is de-activated. Users trying to launch high demand applications (like VMM) get not enough free physical memory until BOINC is closed, again even if there is no work units present OR that BOINC has been told to process only while idol. On our servers, applications that hoard idol memory and use low priority CPU cycles for background tasks, like Exchange, have incredible performance drops just from installing the client, again no work units. Dual Zeon 2.8 2GB ram, 512 gone to an app with NO DATA and overall system performance craters. When work units are processed, the system lags like crazy. All are servers are running “classic†Seti again with no problems. Even having the SETI Graphic Windows open in the background correctly allows other applications use of the CPU. |

> The 4.05 release allows BOINC to switch projects at a minimum of one hour. > Depending on your resource share, a particular project may process longer > before actually switching. > Is there a list of what each updates does that I have missed? If so can you post directions/URL if not can we put that on the wish list. |
