Hi everyone, please post your results using the new Windows optimized clients (the ones I posted about in the announcements thread). Should you run into trouble, this is also the place to post about it. Regards, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Optimized SETI@Home apps + Information |

Thanks for the good work Simon ! Here is my first result with your seti opt app. It has a -9 result overflow, but that shouldn't be a problem. Probably a noisy WU. The second one is now crunching. Previously I was using Crunch3r's opt app. After a few results I hope to comapre the times on various AR. But I will carry on using yours, regardless. |

I had already downloaded the Linux SSE version for my AMD Linux box, which has been working fine. As soon as I saw the announcement, I went and got Windows versions for my P-4M Win laptop and my Celeron Win box - both working fine! Now I'm just holding my breath for a version to fit my ancient P2 MMX / Linux machine - it really needs all the help it can get. :) Thanks for all the hard work, Simon! Roy |

Hi Simon.... Still getting some errors on one machine. See this work unit. Mine failed but the work has been successfully crunched by two computers using the stock software. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

Josef Segur just had a similar WU to yours - took about as long, and had just one spike less than the limit that makes it say "-9 result overflow" (I believe he said it was 30 and it detected 29). Different AR though. Guess you'll have to wait to see whether other clients also report this with the same error, but I'd assume they will. I have these hosts running my Windows clients - (all the WUs I've done online have validated) Xeon 3.0 GHz HT / 1MB Cache all results in July and some starting June 28th Pentium-D 805 2.66 GHz / 2x1MB Cache all results that currently show A64 3500+ 2.2 GHz / 512KB Cache, Winchester all results that currently show Regards, Simon. Hi Simon.... Hm, still no idea why you're getting those. Have you tried using the generic SSE2 instead of the P4-SSE2 app? Is it overclocked or does it have thermal problems? Oh yeah, please use something like Memtest to check whether your RAM is healthy, if you could. Regards, Simon. <edit>Just got invited to a nice BBQ, be out for a few hours.</edit> Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Optimized SETI@Home apps + Information |

Hm, Thanks Simon...it's not overclocked. I'll try what you suggested and a few more things and let you know. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

My first result with Pent M Windows version resultid=351899705 6598 sec, True angle range: 0.866906, compares to 9200 sec for AR = 0.866219 using standard app. We await verification. Thanks, Andy |

Its much better if your run your cache out First. The app_info file that many use(d) with that app covers upto version 5.19 and if you switch to these new optimised apps and app_info before running your cache out it will get annoyed because it cant find a 5.19 app anymore :) Just hope this little bit of advise will avoid wasted units and prevent people thinking the app doesn't work when that happens to them. Running smoothly here. Happy crunching evryone. |

I only checked one but it validated just fine! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351169063 Edit: I am still checking and here are several more, ALL VALIDATING!!! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=350757660 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=350757648 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=350702857 Simon you have a WONDERFUL job and we can do nothing but bow down in your presence!!! edit again: I have checked the running time of the 'optimised' version as opposed to the old one and on my P4D EE machine it used to take about 25,000 to 28,000 seconds to crunch a unit, doing 4 at the same time. It is now taking around 18,000 to 19,000 seconds. That seems to be around a 25% decrease in the amount of time needed to crunch a unit. |

I installed it last night and I also found roughly a 25% increase in speed. I'm using it on an AMD athlon 64 x2 4200 and haven't had a problem yet. Thanks for creating it EDIT: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351915424 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351816911 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351768146 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351768116 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351768088 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351744539 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=351661458 |

My first result with the Intel Pentium M SSE2-optimized 5.15 client - looks to be about twice as fast as the standard v5.15 (and it validated). Good work! Edit: "Twice as fast" may have been a bit exaggerated - more in the range of 60 to 70% improvement. |

Summary Good results so far using KWSN Windows SETI Enhanced Science aps. However very little validation--I'm stuck with slow quorum partners. Details I'm currently running three diverse Windows/Intel machines with KWSN science application (not clients). I did not run cache dry. All three had a previous app_info.xml specifying version 513. Mid-result conversion was successful where tried (Simon's provided app_info.xml has an entry for 513). My one problem was entirely self-generated. I relied on memory rather than CPU-Z for the SSE level of one machine. Installing a SSE2 ap on an SSE machine gave a error exit in the first second. Three hosts: STOLL2 Gallatin Windows XP Pro SP2(Northwood-derived P4 with 2M cache, running hyperthreaded with an Einstein S5 stock science ap in the other thread) Running Trux tx36 client to allow good hyperthreaded sharing with Einstein Three complete "pure" KWSN results, one validated, two pending. The one mixed result has validated. Stoll2 pure KWSN valid result 1 DELL2 Banias (original Pentium-M) 1.4 GHz Windows XP Pro SP2, stock client Three results returned. Awaiting quorum partners. DELL1 Coppermine (P III, SSE-capable) Windows 98 SE. stock client One result returned. Awaiting quorum partners. |

Downloaded KWSN Windows SSE app. Copied files into BOINC folder as directed in the intallation notes, restarted the BOINC manager and from what I can tell it didn't take, it appears according to the BOINC manager that BOINC is still running the 5.4.9 stock app. It don't like me :( My guess is I'm missing something simple. AMD sepron on a windows XP OS machine Any idea's? D. |

Installed on Centrino, P4 3GHz and AMD 64 4800+ X2. So far no validation issues. On the other end, as far as I can tell AMD 4800+ X2 is producing lower than average credits per work unit. Anybody else having this issue or am I getting slow work units? |

Downloaded KWSN Windows SSE app. A couple. If you extracted directly into your BOINC folder and not the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder within, where it needs to be, this is likely your problem. Also, 5.4.9 is your BOINC client, but not the actual seti application (worker), so when you check your messages tab in BOINC Manager, this will stay the same. What you ARE looking for however, is at the beginning of the messages (scroll to top), look for the 4th line that says "Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform". If you see this, the install worked and you are using Simon's opt. Seti ap. If you don't see this (assuming you are still running a standard application w/o an app_info.xml file), then see below: Shutdown BOINC. Unzip file and extract to c:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu. (This of course assumes that you have your BOINC folder in Program Files directory) If you like, you can check the folder contents and look for a file w/ alien icon "setiathome-5.15-kwsn-sse.exe" Restart BOINC and go to message tab and check 4th line as explained above. Hope this solves your problem. Regards. |
