Follow this link for a short article.

You can download this utility here.

Contrary to what the article says, it's not just beneficial in games, but generally.

It might not shorten your crunch time, but it should improve general CPU performance.

Site link suggests it could improve all dual core cpu's. Guess thats not the case from your post

Well,

what it does is properly synchronize both cores' TSC (time stamp counter) clock for clock, which doesn't seem to have been the case up til now.

The real benefit will come soon when AMD will announce Reverse HT. Intel has gone the HT route, making two logical processors from one physical. AMD will go the other way - making one logical processor out of two physical ones.

This might seem like a silly idea. However, most applications to-date are not optimized for multi-processor (multi-threaded) execution. Single-threaded applications make up at least 95% of all software.

So in effect, Reverse HT will make any non-multi-threaded application believe there is only one processor and present one CPU with double the processing power. For this to work correctly, both cores have to be synchronized exactly or bad things will happen.

Still, any multi-threaded application should also benefit from this driver in the current form.

HTH,
Simon.

Imho it looks more like a Patch/Fix than an optimiser.

Agreed, Diego.

How about this one, then?

AMD and SUN to share a common CPU socket in 2008 - seems AMD is making a couple of key strategic moves right about now. Bears watching :o)

Conroe is going to be way ahead in raw performance, but as far as platforms go? AMD is WAY ahead. There will not be close to enough Conroe MoBos out at launch...Intel chipsets are delayed, and only ATI is working on another chipset for it. Shoot your parters in the foot, pretty soon they stop being partners...(i.e. SiS, VIA,... they all used to make Intel compatible chipsets).

It's going to be an interesting two or three years. We'll see what strategy pays off.

Regards,
Simon.

I'm sorry Mr. Chicken, but Reverse HT is not a technology that is possible. I'd believe ArsTechnica over The Inquirer anyday.

...and the Inquirer has already published an article saying they were wrong about it, too ;) About two weeks ago or so.

It was nice, but it won't happen (at least, not soon).
