Deferring communication with project for xx minutes and xx seconds

it would be nice to be able to set this manually to a time of your choice?!

The reason that it is not a user option is to avoid hammering the servers if there is a problem. However, some of the backoffs are ridiculous. One user has reported 8+ weeks.
