It's been on the beta site for a few days.

Yes, it is supposed to fix the Win98 timer problem.

Why everytime Crunch3r release a new optimized version for SETI, and SETI will release another shortly after, caused the BOINC client to auto update and wipe out the Crunch3r optimized verson.

Is it the use of Crunch3r prohibited by SETI?

You need a proper APP_INFO.XML to prevent that. It's on Crunch3r's site.

Silly question - been running SE WU's and crunch3rs opti-client, but am now getting this:

19/05/2006 14:43:40|SETI@home|State file error: no application version setiathome_enhanced 514

Have downlaoded the app_info.xml file (dated 9th May), but clearly what SETI expects (v5.14) is not what it finds....

Does the app_info.xml file need to be updated or what?

Any help appreciated (and given, if I can)

regards,
Tim

I Totally agree with you Ned Ludd,

Something has to be done about the App_info.xml,if you wish to use it, At a Blink of an eye we go from 5.12 to 5.15, we are trying to process a WU at record speed, and forgetting what the project is all about... would love to see the next App_info.xml is, but for crying out loud please...please sort this issue out!!!...

Please don't take this as an attack towards you, just want whats fair to all...

Regards Stargate

Stargate,

The change needed in the app_info.xml file is quite small and can be done using notepad.

see the bottom of Joe's message for the details.

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/forum_thread.php?id=486#5009

ps. I recall cruch3r mentioning in another post that versions up to 5.20 are in the works.

[edit]just one other note, I believe you need to stop and start boinc to implement the change [/edit]

A word of warning about writing/using a app_info.xml file that can cater for versions beyond the current version.
Hopefully in the near future a version will be released that has adjustments in for the credit calculation, if you go beyond the current version, you might end up claiming the wrong, in this case lower, for some units you crunch.

That's a great link - as mentioned there, just edited the XML in Notepad and tweaked the version number to 515 and lo and behold, there be work downloading properly now....! (after stopping and re-starting BOINC of course)

Excellent info - Many thanks !

If you are agreeing with me, you are agreeing to this:

Make your own client software

By default, BOINC will make sure that you are running the latest science application.

When you add an app_info.xml file you are taking control from BOINC and the associated project, and you will control what Science Application runs. Instead of downloading a new science app. BOINC tells the SETI servers what it actually has.

It's less about fairness than it is about responsibility. If you don't want the standard app. you can do that, but if you break it, you own both parts.
