Is anybody aware of any potential problems or conflicts that might occur after installing the Norton Internet Security program?? I just installed it earlier today, and now it is warning me that BOINC is trying to access my computer and asks if I want to always permit BOINC, or to always block it, or to create a manual firewall. I am not knowledgeable enough to know what to do....I want to continue to contribute computer time to BOINC/SETI, at least as long as I know it is safe for me to do so...any comments or suggestions??? |

Just instruct Norton AV to allow boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe to connect the ports 80, 1043 and 31416 on localhost and internet connections. You then are definitely on the safe side. |

As long as I'm using BOINC I do use it with the Norton Internet Security Suite and did not encounter any problems with it, just asks you if you permit it so that BOINC can make a connection with the servers for uploads/downloads, you have nothing to do with the Norton Antivirus just always permit the Norton Internet security to gave BOINC access and it will work fine. |

I use Norton anti-virus and firewall. When I installed BOINC the same warning you got came up, I changed it to always allow connection and everything works fine. |
