Is anybody aware of any potential problems or conflicts that might occur after installing the Norton Internet Security program?? I just installed it earlier today, and now it is warning me that BOINC is trying to access my computer and asks if I want to always permit BOINC, or to always block it, or to create a manual firewall. I am not knowledgeable enough to know what to do....I want to continue to contribute computer time to BOINC/SETI, at least as long as I know it is safe for me to do so...any comments or suggestions???

Just instruct Norton AV to allow boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe to connect the ports 80, 1043 and 31416 on localhost and internet connections. You then are definitely on the safe side.

As long as I'm using BOINC I do use it with the Norton Internet Security Suite and did not encounter any problems with it, just asks you if you permit it so that BOINC can make a connection with the servers for uploads/downloads, you have nothing to do with the Norton Antivirus just always permit the Norton Internet security to gave BOINC access and it will work fine.

I use Norton anti-virus and firewall. When I installed BOINC the same warning you got came up, I changed it to always allow connection and everything works fine.
