FWIW -

Irrespective of the technical reasons, SAH Classic WU's have generally exhibited the same thermal pattern: i.e. high start-up temps during the first 5 - 7 minutes, followed by a very slight decrease, but still relatively high continous temps during the bulk of the processing, followed by significantly lower temps for the final ~10%, or so, of the WU.

Large Angle WU's >1.7, or so, tended to not have as much fluctuation, and generally ran cooler and faster.

Low Angle WU's (less than 0.1) tended to run hot during thier entire (long) crunch time, and the temps didn't decrease during the last 10% of the WU.

Just some casual observations while running SAH1 using CLI_3.03.

yes viewed the lovely images saturday ago, it "inspired" to activate the "history function" of an already mngt tool. MB asus, sw pc-probe

the output are to lines, very bad displayed, shows more informatiosn when going over with the mouse.

the history is still running. we had a high differences in dayly or night oudside inside temperature, so only few cycles where "exactly"

in every case, had peaks start/end phase, from the filedate's time, it's maching. ok the peaks in my case where "only" 3-4 degrees C

this is an "additional" proof of the Nonlinearity of the "way" as the cpu is going to be used.

I just don't know, just sharing this: from the ugly deep inside seen:
we have chip, a cpu with multi-level caches.

let's say all caches a nearly empty (they do not) when the boinc-client starts with an new crunch. it surely beginn with allocating memory for tables and son on. then the data are filled out and removed, in and out. first the extrem fast internal data cache is filled out, "slowly" the 2nd level has to do, and the the ouside cpu "swap of the os"

as more progress time is "done", as more administration of the tables and data handling has to be done outside of the cpu, this "slowes a bit down and
we see a lesser use of the cpu.

it's a speculation. I don't know

seeing the "nearly" linear cpu demand by ripping or image processing or video convertion, it indeed at least "strange"


closing, a possible solution to your "problem", able to know the actual prgress by listening to the venti, can (not must) be solved, by adding an other or a third laptop around you...

Bonjour because I am currently in Montréal 0530 local
time. Woke up an hour ago. Yes it could be cache usage
but I realy don't know. This temperature thing is not
a problem though, just an observation.

I have checked at Intel web site and according to them
my CPU can run at maximum temperature of 100 deg Celsius.
The highest temperature I've seen on this laptop was 85.
It was a boring game but with incredible graphics.
Microsoft flight simulator runs at 78. seti at maximum
72 with Classic running cmd line. So I'm not worrying
too much.
