I have upgraded to the BOINC sofware. I'm running it without problems from 2 Windows machines and one Linux machine. But from the second Linux machine, it won't run. When I started it, I get the following message: 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.2.13 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] Data directory: /home/dahls 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] Memory: 503.23 MB physical, 0 bytes virtual 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] Disk: 18.97 GB total, 17.65 GB free 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Computer ID: not assigned yet; location: ; project prefs: default 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 2005-12-01 14:24:30 [---] Remote control not allowed; using loopback address 2005-12-01 14:24:32 [---] Running CPU benchmarks 2005-12-01 14:25:32 [---] Benchmark results: 2005-12-01 14:25:32 [---] Number of CPUs: 1 2005-12-01 14:25:32 [---] 406 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 2005-12-01 14:25:32 [---] 695 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU 2005-12-01 14:25:32 [---] Finished CPU benchmarks 2005-12-01 14:25:33 [---] Resuming computation and network activity 2005-12-01 14:25:33 [---] request_reschedule_cpus: Resuming activities 2005-12-01 14:25:36 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Master file download succeeded 2005-12-01 14:25:36 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 2005-12-01 14:25:36 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Reason: Requested by user 2005-12-01 14:25:36 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Requesting 8640 seconds of new work 2005-12-01 14:25:38 [http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/] Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded 2005-12-01 14:25:38 [SETI@home] Message from server: No work sent 2005-12-01 14:25:38 [SETI@home] Message from server: No work sent 2005-12-01 14:25:38 [SETI@home] Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated) 2005-12-01 14:25:38 [SETI@home] Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated) 2005-12-01 14:25:38 [SETI@home] Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 158.5 MB before BOINC gets space). Are your disk preferences OK ? - (Your account / View or edit general preferences / Disk and memory usage) This are the defaults : Use no more than 1 GB disk space Leave at least 0.1 GB disk space free Use no more than 50% of total disk space Write to disk at most every 60 seconds Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory If you here have wrong settings, the boinc client won't donwload anything. |

Are your disk preferences OK ? - (Your account / View or edit general preferences / Disk and memory usage) I have got the same problem as dahls, but whereas he got "No disk space (YOU must free 158.5 MB before BOINC gets space)." I got "No disk space (YOU must free 23.5 MB before BOINC gets space)." To add: My boinc client is running on a partition with 2.3 Gigs of free space under Mandriva 2005. The whole partition is 6.4 Gigs of size. It is not a root- or a home partition, but a seperate one. I have removed nearly 500 MB of files there to get it run, changed my prefs to 0.01% of total disk space, but to no avail ... :( Is it looking for whatever reason on another partition for this space? Any help would be really appreciated :) Located somewhere in Galactic Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha |

Have you updated your client prefs, after the change of the values on the web site ? Can you try to set "Use no more than XX% of total disk space" to a high value, for example 80 or 90 %. |

Thank you for your quick answer :) Now I get "2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.2.8 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Data directory: /doxdown/seti_clients/boinc/BOINC 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+ 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Memory: 1011.41 MB physical, 256.39 MB virtual 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Disk: 7.00 GB total, 2.25 GB free 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu not found 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu not found 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Remote control not allowed; using loopback address 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] This computer is not attached to any projects. 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] There are several ways to attach to a project: 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] 1) Run the BOINC Manager and click Projects. 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] 2) (Unix/Mac) Use boinc_cmd --project_attach 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] 3) (Unix/Mac) Run this program with the -attach_project command-line option. 2005-12-04 15:27:56 [---] Visit http://boinc.berkeley.edu for more information" What the hell is going on? I have visited the above mentioned page, but seem to be unable to find help there ... :( I had run the "run_client -update_prefs <URL>" command btw. .... Strange, looks like you have lot your attachment to the project. Via commandline? Or from my "Your account" page? Located somewhere in Galactic Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha |

Strange, looks like you have lot your attachment to the project. Best via the command line (boinc_client -attach_project http://setiathome.berkeley.edu $PUT_IN_YOU_ACCOUNT_KEY) or within the boinc manager. |

Strange, looks like you have lot your attachment to the project. Just for the record: I had to reset and to detach the project first to get it started ... :( At first, I got only something like "already attached to project ...", but after resetting, detaching and then reattaching the project, boinc started downloading an new WU. But now I get only "temporarily failed download of <client name>" respectively "temporarily failed download of <WU name>" ... :( But a progress anyhow ... ;) Located somewhere in Galactic Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha |

O.K., thanks for the answer. My WU download finished meanwhile, whereas my s@h client still tries to download ... :( I will stop it then, and wait 'til tomorrow morning ... ;) Located somewhere in Galactic Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha |

Are your disk preferences OK ? - (Your account / View or edit general preferences / Disk and memory usage) had nearly same problem, but had to up disk space to 15gb to get anything working. tried lower values still would not let me download. as i said when i put in 15gb, updated, then it would let me download.my settings were 4gb to start with until i updated to 5.2.13 |
