I downloaded Boinc 5.2.8 on 11-25-05. I had trouble unzipping the file using Stuffit expander 10. I had to use an old copy of Zipit for Mac. The resulting install Package contained 4,536,785 bytes. It will not complete the install process. Is there a known conflict with OS X 10.4? Do I have a corrupt install file? Do you see any other possibility?

No known problems with the installer, and 10.4.2 is fine... it sounds like a bad download. I have not downloaded 5.2.8 myself yet, it just came out in the last couple of days. I would say to trash it and try the download again. If that still doesn't work, I would try to download 5.2.5 from this link:

There are very few changes between 5.2.5 and 5.2.8. I'm running a wild mix of 4.7.2, 5.2.5, and 5.2.7, and I can't tell any major difference between them - often the change is in some language localization file, etc., especially just within the 5.2.x family.

Also, I would NOT let Safari call on Stuffit to do the expanding - I'd save the file to the desktop and then unstuff it separately. Safari's stuffit engine is sometimes, um, less than ideal. Stuffit expander SHOULD work though.
