New boinc preference:

Suspend computation if the following processes are running:

( list of processes, like, starcraft.exe, game.exe, bigprogram.exe, etc. )

Very useful if i'm running a game or something like that. For example, I cold put in starcraft.exe, and if that's running, then BOINC will not compute data.

It doesn't. Next time you fire up Starcraft, alt-tab out and check your task manager. Starcraft will be taking all the CPU cycles.

BOINC is very good at giving CPU time to anything that needs it. I render graphics, play games, etc... without ever suspending BOINC.

boinc is set on very low priority unless you change it so whenever something else is running, boinc gets kicked out.

either that or just suspend it while you are playing

True, but if I forget to suspend it myself, then it adds all those minutes to the computation of my work unit, while it's using the 1% of the cpu that starcraft isn't. ... Or at least that's how the old version of seti@home worked. I'll test it out myself, but if you already know if it works like this, (like the previous version of seti), then let me know. Thanks everyone.

It will add to the WU competion time. But since credits are no longer based on the number of WUs completed, this really isn't an issue. :-)

It will add some but it will not add like seti I did. BOINC uses CPU time not wall time so the added time is only the little bit that is spent swapping in and out.

Thanks John! Lack of sleep didn't make my answer very clear.

I didn't mention how much time it adds did I? Well, at least I did manage (I think) to get the point across that it really isn't much of an issue. ;)

Made sense to me when I posted it... My apologies.
