I set my preference of "Write to disk at most every" to "6000 second " to reduce the disk access.
but I think this setting is too rigit to avoid writing when system shut down.

PLEASE CONSIDER TO WRITE TO DISK WHEN SYSTEM SHUT DOWN SO THAT MY COMPURATION NOT BE DISCARDED.

MY system is WindowsXP and VONIC BETA VERSION 3.19 M1 RELEASE.

I hope you can understand my Japanese english as well.
thanks.

Every 6000 seconds??? That's 1hr 40mins. I personally think that's way too long. If you don't want it accessing the HD too often, I would lower that to at least every 10 or 15 mins (600 or 900 seconds). As for the option to "write to disk at shutdown," I think that's a good idea. Hope they implement that one.

Ranz,

Thanks for your message.

I felt my setting is a little bit excessive, so I updated my setting to 600 sec.
I'm hoping result should be written without dicarding any calculation.

You're welcome. And your Japanese English was just fine. I understood what you meant.

This is a good idea. I don't think it will be implementable at system shutdown. However it may be possible when exiting the client. Even then there will problems.

The way it works normally is the app asks to checkpoint when it is ready. If the delay has not been met yet it will defer until the next time the app reaches a point where it can checkpoint. So if an app has checkpoints come up every 4 minutes or so and the setting is for 5 minutes it may be 9 minutes between checkpoints at times. If the setting is for 3 minutes then checkpoints will be done every 4 minutes when the app is ready. Seti I did checkpoints every minute so I would expect the BOINC/seti to be able to do checkpoints at the same rate.

definitely 6000 is WAY too high!!!! when you shut down if if there is a problem, you lose 90 minutes of computation time. for the split second it takes to write the info to the hd, 60 seconds isnt bad. then you dont have to worry.

I would just drop the writing back to every couple of minutes... no more than 3 or 4 imho. that way you dont lose precious time.

I set mine at 2 hours because I need to have my hard drive turn off so the system is quiet other wise I am not alowed by "the boss" to leave the PC on at night. No need to waste hard drive life and the power to run it.
