Since loading Seti/BOINC my computer seems to slow to a crawl and CPU usage measured in the activity monitor gets to 100%. 65% or more of thhis time is shown as going to "%Nice" as opposed to %user, or %system. To get back in control I've had to quit, or force quit "setiathome_4.18_powerPC-apple-darwin", what ever that is.
This is intermittant. As I type I have this condition showing in the activity monitor and my Mac Mini is tooling along as advertized.

I notice your computer is taking between 22,000 and 29,000 seconds to complete a WU. I'd suggest strongly that you go over to the Team MacNN web site and get the optimized BOINC and SETI. For example, my 1.33 GHz iBook G4 takes around 7,800 seconds per WU using the optimized apps. The BOINC Manager or BOINC Menubar downloads are at the top of the page on the web site, and if you scroll down farther, you'll see the optimized SETI by Alex and Rick. Should improve your performance greatly.

Also, for info, I currently have SAFARI, iCAL, Eudora, and Software Update running on my PowerBook, and even while I'm typing, it seems to average about 10% User, 3% System, and the rest is Nice. In this case, Nice is SETI, or CPDN, or Einstein running in the background. My computer doesn't appear to bog down at all, which is how BOINC is supposed to operate. BOINC is on a very low priority, so it only operates when your computer is not doing anything. For example, typing as fas as you can will only use a few of your Gigahertz+ CPU cyles each second - BOINC just uses it in between your keystrokes.
How much RAM do you have on your computer? My experience is that lack of RAM slows down the effort, not having BOINC running...
