I've just moved from Classic to BOINC and have installed the client on my Debian machine. Trying to run it I've encountered the following errors:
2005-09-27 17:36:18 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.43 for i686-pc-linux-gnu
2005-09-27 17:36:18 [---] Data directory: /root/BOINC
2005-09-27 17:36:18 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults
2005-09-27 17:36:18 [---] Remote control not allowed; using loopback address
2005-09-27 17:36:18 [---] GUI RPC bind failed: -1
2005-09-27 17:36:18 [---] GUI RPC bind failed: -1
gstate.init() failed: -180

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It looks like you installed BOINC as root. Are you running it as root? I would personally suggest against doing that but whatever floats your boat I guess :)

Which command are you running? It looks like you are running the GUI client without starting the daemon first. On my gentoo box there are 3 boinc executables. boinc_client is the daemon that runs in the background and actually does the work. boinc_gui is the GUI obviously and boinc_cmd is a commandline utility to issue individual commands from the commandline. If your install has a similar setup then you want to run boinc_client in the background and THEN start boinc_gui.
