IF and when they do an upgrade to BOINC program is there a way that it can be "told" a user is on "dail up" and therefore it would only try to make contact when the user was "online"? I think that would cut back on all the "red" that shows up on the message screen. Or is that something that can't be done?

under file ( top let of BOINC is the "Disable Boinc network access" command click on this to stop Boinc trying to get a connection, then when your dial up is up press is again.
this would have the same effect.

BIONC 5.1 can also be set to ask for a connection. The setting has been there for a long time, but has been broken, and 5.1 is supposed to have fixed it. This is a general setting in your account on this (or any other BOINC) project web site.
