Why do I need to compile my own x86 command line program? Seems to be a popular option. I’m an idiot and don’t know how, so I guess I’m stuck with the graphic version for now. Since there is a big lack of data, why not reset and re-send old data. I’m trying to migrate over since the old client started giving weird data errors. I would like to get one or two work units done just to see I have things setup right. I have one PC that has done 1 seti unit and 3 other units. How about a new project that is just test data so we can see it works? Can we have a thread in any half logical order, like order posted? None of the options show initial question, then response then response. I read an answer, then a question than an answer. Very tedious to read. I read a post about why, but I think the person replying was not seeing what I am seeing. Local preferences not web based preference. This would allow quick change (like when I take a notebook on the road and need to switch to dialup). Another nice local option would be to change computer setting (ie to home, work, etc) this would resolve a lot of post issues, like CPU usage between multi and single. The on-line prefs have an issue loosing changes when I use the back button in both firebird and Internet explorer (and yes, I do click apply). Happens more in IE. Need to click the home option then re-logon. My on-line prefs show no PC’s, not sure if it’s because only one has gotten data, but none there. Password protection for profiles. I ended up in someone else’s when I mis-copied the test. I don’t want some one in mine! Client indication of which pref mode it has inherited (IE home, work, etc). I saw in the work send text all different modes at different times, so not sure if this is supposed to be how to show and it busted or since my prefs page is gimped I’m not seeing an option. I moved after three of the PC’s I use stated getting odd data errors when running Seti and checked the site for info. My feeling is that the new is not ready and I can’t go back since I converted. I tried using the predictor project for now, but no data their either. I think I’ll wait a few more nights and then give up and un-install for a few months. I hope the feedback here helps make it better for everyone. |

you dont need to compile your own version, since the boinc client is just what it is.... wu's are coming... just be patient... for threads, just change the option in the scroll box to what you what.... dont click the back button after you change your pref's since that resets them you can only get into your account with the humungous client ID to get in... it is IMPOSSIBLE to get into someone else's account !!! the site seems to not be able to handle more than 2 computers for some reason... just remember boinc is still in beta phase and changes are being done everyday dont bother uninstalling, just run classic instead... ttyl Jeff (Nightowl) |

> for threads, just change the option in the scroll box to what you what.... I have this problem as well - I change the selection to sort by most recent, click OK, and it resets to sort by score. |

>Why do I need to compile my own x86 command line program? Seems to be a popular option. I’m an idiot and don’t know how, so I guess I’m stuck with the graphic version for now. You don't, there is a CLI that is copied with the installation. If you have an unsupported computer/OS combination is the only time that you have to compile your own or find someone who has compiled that version. Sending old data is one of the things that Berkeley has promissed not to do. If there is no data, there is no data, and you are supposed to join other BOINC projects to make up the short fall (spread the wealth around a bit). The only other public project at the moment is http://predictor.scripps.edu/ and does protein folding. More are coming. Many people left S@H1 because of the dozens of times that each WU was crunched just to keep the clients crunching. >Can we have a thread in any half logical order, like order posted? None of the options show initial question, then response then response. I read an answer, then a question than an answer. Very tedious to read. I read a post about why, but I think the person replying was not seeing what I am seeing. I would like this as well. >Local preferences not web based preference. Another nice local option would be to change computer setting (ie to home, work, etc) this would resolve a lot of post issues, like CPU usage between multi and single. Web based preferences are a boon to farm users. I would like to see the ability to set the preferences locally in addition to on the web. >The on-line prefs have an issue loosing changes when I use the back button in both firebird and Internet explorer (and yes, I do click apply). Happens more in IE. Need to click the home option then re-logon. I don't have this problem, but then I allow cookies from the BOINC project web sites that I connect to. >My on-line prefs show no PC’s, not sure if it’s because only one has gotten data, but none there. Unfortunately I have no idea what the problem is here. It may be that you will have to wait until one gets credit before it shows. >Password protection for profiles. I ended up in someone else’s when I mis-copied the test. I don’t want some one in mine! Were you able to edit, or just view the profile? >Client indication of which pref mode it has inherited (IE home, work, etc). I saw in the work send text all different modes at different times, so not sure if this is supposed to be how to show and it busted or since my prefs page is gimped I’m not seeing an option. Nice idea. >I moved after three of the PC’s I use stated getting odd data errors when running Seti and checked the site for info. But remember that Predictor is officially in public Alpha testing, so glitches are to be expected. S@H was forced to go live by discovery and leaks before it was ready. |

Thanks for your replies John. Jeff, please see comment below. > you dont need to compile your own version, since the boinc client is just what > it is.... > This was answered higher up about command line options, but still having an issue iwth it. May need some clearer text on teh download page noteing for command line download GUI. Some of us have dual 2.8 zeon CPU's but only have 32mb of video ram, so the GUI is not realy wanted/needed. On my home PC bring it on. > wu's are coming... just be patient... Lack of WU's are what are causing other issues. It's all well to say join other projacts but I am joind to both and neither were giving data. From my oberservations it seems you can't set PC preferences untill data is sent back from client. I have some PC's that the default would realy not make happy. I have since reveresd the default/customised to try and work around this. Since there is not a fully operational project, why not put up one stricktly for client testing reasons? > for threads, just change the option in the scroll box to what you what.... IF IT DID THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE POSTED! I do not block cookies (i'm 300lbs cookies are ALWAYS welcome). Tonight the Most recent first is working. This is the first time this has worked. > dont click the back button after you change your pref's since that resets > them Did you read my issue and if so what is your solution? To only go to the main page or an entirly different website? To add a button to take you back to the previouse or root config page? To say this should not be an issue and this is a bug? > you can only get into your account with the humungous client ID to get in... > it is IMPOSSIBLE to get into someone else's account !!! I was (and am) able to edit other people's on-line settings. I have changes user data and it did keep the changes. I can not target (I could not open yours to play with) but I could randomly keep trying over and over, and may be able to look for some sort of patern based on the user start date. but needless to say it is VERY possible. If you still don't beleive me I could post a tag and point you to the profile I added it to. > the site seems to not be able to handle more than 2 computers for some > reason... just remember boinc is still in beta phase and changes are being > done everyday And that would be why I reported this as a bug, then sugested an idea to avoid it and other issues posted, wich is teh point of beta testing (no the point of beta testing is not to get the software first). Seems like this is an issue resolved with data, I have 2 of 12 PC's on now, and the difference seems to be work units sent back activate the link. > > dont bother uninstalling, just run classic instead... Urr, yes that would be un-installing since I would not want to run both concurently.....but as I said the old Seti is having odd issues now aswell. I have always had the odd work unit I needed to delete to resolve an error, but it was a once or twice a year event. Now it was daily. > ttyl > Jeff (Nightowl) > |
