If the analysis portion of the seti engine has not changed I would prefer not to have to upgrade NN unix servers just to implement whatever this BOINC technology is. What's more important, the work of the analysis or how it's wrapped? Did seti send email about this? All my seti clients just failed with no explanation. I hate RTFM ... and while my way-easy very-pretty FreeBSD port for setiathome was just installed on several servers, now it's been (apparently gratuitously) busted. I would suggest keeping the old method running to collect data from the vast number of servers running "headless". And I would suggest giving people notice, since the list of users equals the list of their email addresses. Foo ! ! ! |

The analysis engine is not the same. That's the whole idea behind BOINC. Any time they want to add a few more FFTs or vary the algorithm, they make the change and the next time your machine asks for more work, the new project application is downloaded automatically. <a> [/url] |
