Why is it I get the following message when entering the "Wondering...Spywares" thread.. ------ This page wishes to set the cookie session="33112bbd01ca9119291ab7973bb40ab5" This value will be sent to documents on all servers in the domain notlong.com, and paths that are starting in /. The cookie will be deleted when Opera is closed. ---------------------- Full cookie request: session=33112bbd01ca9119291ab7973bb40ab5; domain=.notlong.com; path=/ ---------------------- I have also seen one from www.sun.com on another thread but can't appear to find it again.. Live long and crunch. Paul (S@H1 8888) And proud of it! |

Using IE6, with Avatars and signatures turned off. Looked at the thread and then ran Adaware SE. Didn't see the cookies that you described. They might be coming from an Avatar or sig site. |

I've got the cookie you've mentioned as well, and after viewing the source of the thread, there are two images (from the original poster's sig) which use the notlong.com domain. notlong.com is a URL redirection service, so I'm betting that they're the ones setting the cookie whenever you access "fil.notlong.com", "fil3.notlong.com", or "fil4.notlong.com". Could be a session cookie, these are not saved on your system when your browser is closed. Typcially they contain info only used during that session to identify the browser session. I run IE 6 with first-party and third-party cookies blocked and session cookies disabled. I have added about 12 web sites to the allowed sites list for my bank etc that need cookies to work. This way no cookie I am do not want ever makes it on to my PC. MS Antispy certainly used to scan for tracking cookies as it had a cookie jar progress icon, this seems to have disappeared in the latest release, whether this is because cookies are scanned as part of the file scan or have been removed altogether I don't know. |
