I've read other threads about upload problems... the replies usually state that the servers are busy..

I now have three completed projects that have been in a "retry in XXX" state for days.. Im getting annoyed.

If it can download new projects to my machine then why cant I upload them.. either automatically or manually?

Its certainly not a speed issue... Im on a 4mb cable connection with a pretty damn fast PC..

Different processes.

BTW- take a look at the main page, or re-read a few of the threads relating to upload problems & you'll notice that Berkley have acknowledged there is a problem with the upload server still dropping connections & they're looking in to it.

if you are using a core client with a version number prior to 4.19 then you will lose WUs when the server drops connections. You will get a Download Failed message. Upgrade to a version 4.19 or higher. If you are using a version higher than 4.18 then the WU will stay in the "download" queue until it does download.

The science applications update automatically, but not the Client itself. It's considered a security issue. If the used client is no longer enough for any project, it will stop sending work, and notify the manager in the message tab (at least, that's how it should work, as I try to run the actual stuff, and am here around often, I never was in a situation where I could try it myself ;)

Another reason that the upgardes are not forced is that many organizations have processes where software installed has to be "certified" that it does not cause other problems. So, an organization may certify a version and then only upgrade it when they have no other choice.

Even to this day, some places are still running NT4 ... it works for what they want to do, and it is expensive to recertify a new OS and all of the applications that run on it ...

@Cliff Look at the top of the screen. You will see a "participate" click on it, then under "returning participants" click on the link "upgrade your BOINC software".

hope this helps

OH damn, CLIFF you need to stop the boinc client. Use windows "uninstall" to remove 4.13 prior to installing a newer client or you'll lose your existing WU. Hope I caught you in time.

I managed to get one uploaded and reported at 4 am Eastern US time and then another one a while ago. I'm also on dial up. I've been getting new work, but sometimes it takes a couple of extra attempts to complete the download.

Tony, I have a quick guide to updateing the install that I need to "spiff" up with pictures and such ... you can get to it via the "How-To" Guide link off the first page.

I don't know if you have look at them or not ... I have updated the install and am working on the Attach part now ... (well, actually I am going to breakfast).

We also have the maintanance and testing guides from CPDN's experience ... Chris Randle helped by bringing those over ... and I got a new test off of LHC@Home's board ...

I managed to upload 5 results at morning (well, it was an early morning here in Finland) by abusing the retry button long enough but after that I haven't been able to upload anything. Downloads work fine though.

Unfortunately, if they don't manage to fix this problem with dropped connections during next 12 hours I'm gonna lose quite a bunch of results (well, only 13 actually) since I won't have an internet access for about three weeks and deadlines for these results are dated long before that.

Oh well, nothing ever goes as planned.

hope you didn't lose anything. 4.19 is an approved version and should work well. It won't necessarily get your work uploaded as the problem is at Berkeley, but you won't be trashing WUs with "Download errors", and that is a good thing. So many people are still using 4.13 that the download errors are actually faulting out the result so that Seti WON'T even examine that WU and maybe we'll miss ET. If you have friends still using 4.13 please pass the word. If you upgrade from 4.19 to the GUI version of Boinc you'll need to remember to uninstall the old one before installing the new one or you'll lose WUs. 4.45 is a 6 M file, but you download it only ONCE. I'm on dial up and it takes about 20 minutes.

glad you're OK
