All I can say is I'm glad the rest of the Teams don't feel the need to give the Forum a hourly running update on where they are at in the Rankings. There's at least 6 Threads started on this @Team's Ranking on the Main Page alone. Give it a rest Guido, nobody outside of your Team Members really gives a rip on what Rank you are ... |

It sure would be exiciting to hear a signal from another world. Maybe they will come visit earth. Maybe they will look like this: |

Except that this is the number crunching forum and really these anouncements are some of the closest things I have seen that really fall under "number crunching." That's kind of sad though. There has been a lot of good information on here with a lot of good answers. In some ways I agree with you that most people don't care about team rankings for any team but their own, but when sooooo much of this forum is dedicated to complaining about pictures, testing their signatures, and complaining in ignorance about how awful BOINC is, Guido's post actually seems a lot closer to topic than most anything I see, especially recently... Ok I know I said I liked the pictures and all, but I don't really like when people try to copy other people's style (which you may not be doing but it sure seems like it). Plus, I thought your 61 K picture in the other thread was really pushing it especially considering the size of the pictures Guido posts, but 203 K is way too much to be putting on here. I think people should limit their picture sizes to a maximum of 50 K (unless extremely warranted) and preferably smaller just as a common courtesy to everyone, and especially those with slower connections. > It sure would be exiciting to hear a signal from another world. I have more credits than his whole Team put together, but do I inform the Forum of it every hour, no, because I'm sure the forum isn't interested in how many credits I have & the same goes for Guidos Team. I'm just saying people should talk about things more closely related to the project itself. :) Chris > Yes it is, but do we need 6 Threads started on the main page alone on his > Teams ranking and until yesterday a hourly update. I have a fast one too so it wasn't really applicable to me, although my connection is very slow at the moment for some reason and threads are taking longer to load than usual. A lot of people have been complaining about pictures using size/bandwidth as the an argument not to post them. As long as the pictures are kept smaller than most signatures which apparently most people who don't like pictures don't have a problem with, that argument will continue to made only in ignorance. So in addition to it being a common courtesy, it would be in the best interests of those who post pictures to not give any validity to these claims if they wish to keep posting pictures... Just so you know, I didn't mean to jump your case quite like I did, but I think the large pictures needed to be acted fairly quickly before it got out of hand. Thanks for understanding though. Long live the pictures, small ones anyway. :) Chris > > My sincere apology Chris. I have a very fast connection and forget that there > are still some folks using dial up. Lloyd > |

Not bad :) 200 K to about 1400 Bytes.. I like it :) Thanks for changing it. Someone in another thread said something about it being unreasonable for people to be expected to "police" themselves or something to that affect. I think this just goes to show that they were wrong, and when you make a valid reasonable request, people are more likely to listen and take action. I found that using the link to my postings on my user page it was pretty easy to go through every post I made to every forum and remove all pictures that were larger than 5K which I have done. <A> |
