Congratulations, Daniel - you're absolutely correct. Most iMacs can be upgraded to OS X 10.3.9 which runs BOINC just fine. I have an iMac 333 MHz tray loader that is happily cranking out SETI/BOINC. If your school can't afford to buy OS X 10.3.9, don't give up hope too quickly - go to the various forums and see if anyone who has recently upgraded their Mac to OS X 10.4 Tiger will donate their old OS X 10.3 to your school. It's a win-win situation, if you can find some willing people, as you get free upgrades, and they can claim a legitimate tax deduction for a charitable contribution. Good luck with your searching! Just chalk it up to the "we have all the money in the world for this project at Berkeley, and do not give a hoot about the existing community" |

Just chalk it up to the "we have all the money in the world for this project at Berkeley, and do not give a hoot about the existing community" Just chalk it up to: "We have no money here in Berkeley with our meager budget to keep all long outdated OS supported." There isn't a version for Win 3.1 as well, so it's not just Macs ;) How do you come to the idea of "all the money" in connection with Seti?
