I've replaced my old Linux webserver with a newer P4 HT 2.8g and installed Fedora Core 3 on it. I've already installed boinc 4.43 and it is currently running I believe seti 4.02.

Now bear with me, as I am still rather novice at Linux, I've dabbled a little with it and do some basic tasks in it, but either way, here's my request:

I would like to get an optimized client for this server, and I've seen the list on Metod's website, but I don't know which I should download for my system, and I'm not 100% sure how to install it into the system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Either of the boinc P4 apps and either of the setiathome P4 clients will be fine.

Replacing the boinc app is just a staight swap. To install the optimized setiathome app you will need to place both the client and an appropriately configured app_info.xml file in your /projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu directory.

You are best off with TMR optimized client available from Metod website.
It's called "P4-optimized IPP 4.07" and it's name is setiathome-4.07-ipp.i686-p4-linux-gnu.gz

Once you get it, do this:
gunzip setiathome-4.07-ipp.i686-p4-linux-gnu.gz
chmod +x setiathome-4.07-ipp.i686-p4-linux-gnu
cp setiathome-4.07-ipp.i686-p4-linux-gnu boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu

Create a new file called app_info.xml under boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu, and paste the appropriate info into it. Check Metod's page for the script which automatically generates the app_info.xml

I am intentionally not providing a direct link to the client so you have a chance to browse his site and his disclaimers :)

Thanks Ned and michael,

I did see Metod's disclaimers and such, but the only thing I didn't see was how to make boinc use that app instead of the 4.02 app. Metod, if you happen to read this, it may help on your website. :)

Again, thanks!
