On the night of the 5th-6th June, I had a weird thing happen to my system. I described the event in this thread.

Everything seemed fixed, and I am now crunching all projects. The machine is hyper threading, i.e. processing 2 wu's at the same time. I have not changed the cc, still 4.25. In my settings I am set for "Use 2 processors", "Contact every 0.1 days", "Remain in Memory" - all the same things as before. I don't show any graphics. Machine is 24/7.

I have noticed the following...

Einstein.

Before and after the event, wu's are taking around 37 - 38,000 seconds, but before the event, was claiming 65 - 75 per wu. After "the event", I have started claiming 90 - 95 for the same number of seconds.

LHC.

Similar, before and after, wu's taking 17-18,000 seconds. Before event, claiming 30-35, after the event, claiming 40-45.

SETI.

Again, similar, before and after wu's taking 10-11,000 seconds. Before event claiming 20-25, after the event, claiming 25-30.

Predictor.

Before the event, a wu was taking 3-4,000 seconds and claiming 7-8 per wu. After the event, a wu is taking 4-5,000 seconds and I am claiming 10-11 per wu.

CPDN.

Impossible to say.

Is there anything I could have done whilst fiddling to fix the machine that could account for this, or am I looking at a really freaky coincidence?

I probably did a bad benchmark - maybe something else was running at the same time. It can be fixed by running it again (File/Run Benchmark from the Boinc Manager), or enjoy the extra credit until the benchmark is automatically run again. Of course this could be the good one and the old one was cheating you out of some credit.

>>> or enjoy the extra credit

LOL, of course, claiming it and receiving it are different things!

I've just re-run the benchmarks to see what happens. I thought it used to run the benchmarks every day.

I doubt benchmarks would make my Predictor units run slower, but they definitely seem to be. I guess it could just be a different wu style, although the few I looked at all seemed to be the same helix.

Once every 5 days.

After recalculating my benchmarks, the projects that have reported back have returned to their previous levels. Good call.
